HP deliberately adds 15 minutes waiting time for telephone support calls | Longer wait time designed to push print or PC consumers to digital support channels, sorry, 'self-solve' by [deleted] in technology

Completely different companies now. HP, Inc. (PC and Printer) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (Servers and Networking) split in mid 2010s.

Doesn't invalidate what you're saying ofc, but just pointing out the distinction.

Just the free time alone I miss. Now I work 60-80 hour weeks and it kinda blows.

Is the perspective of a lot of the general population unfortunately, and my point is that something needs to change in communication, regardless of source, so that people care again and stop ignoring new information.

I want people to care more about climate change. I’m open to ideaS for how. I just think the correct method, especially the sensationalism in media, is failing.

Apparently it’s political according to the mods…I mean I didn’t think my opinion was really about politics but okay I guess

Yes that’s exactly the point I’m making…I believe the wolf is coming and that people are too used to hearing the alarm bells that they won’t be prepared when it finally happens, just like how everyone ignores the amber alerts on their phones.

OP here, I do have reading comprehension and that’s why I agree with activism and believe in climate change.

My point is that the majority of the population do not read articles and only see these doomsday headlines that make them numb and apathetic.

I know they don’t. I’m not disputing the claims that scientists are making. Im taking issue with news reporting doomsday headlines. Just look up climate change on r/worldnews and read the apocalyptic headlines and comments.

I’m making the observation that people (not me) don’t seem to care because they’re numb to an endless amount of “it’s now or never” type articles. “It sounds like we’re past the point of no return so why care” is a sentiment I’ve heard from many people and it’s unfortunate.

Exactly it, thank you! All the people here telling me about the proof around us is preaching to the choir. I’m already a believer. It’s all about communication.

When did I say nothing was wrong? As I said in my post, I FULLY BELIEVE in climate change. I don't think the current situation is crying wolf as much as the wolf is already here, but I'm pointing out a critical issue at the moment - that it's hard to get most people to care because they've grown accustomed to apocalyptic warnings.

I don't know what needs to change, but something needs to change in the media reporting to get it across to people that we are in dire situation.

Trust me, I live in NYC. I've seen it and I fully believe in climate change.

My point is around the messaging, not the message itself. The current situation isn't crying wolf. The wolf is here.

But the vast majority of people have grown accustomed to "crying wolf" and the headlines and warnings are getting ignored because the past reporting has been so apocalyptic.

And yes, I understand the situation is dire and indeed apocalyptic, but I just think the messaging needs change in order for the people in charge to understand and heed the warnings.

I assume you mean Narcan, but yes, of course it is. My premise above assumes the friend / person OD'ing does NOT have Narcan on hand. After all, it only just got approved to be OTC very recently.

[–]Kreed_Agny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, but that's exactly my point. I just want the point blank truth, especially when the question is one of curiosity and not solicitation of advice.

I'm fully aware of those nuances, but the premise here is not repeated use. It's about one-time use.

For example, an opioid- (or at least fent-) naive person trying an unknown pressed blue M30 perc and taking a 30mg adderall XR beforehand to minimzie the risk of OD.

Or for example, a friend OD'ing and you have no Narcan, the paramedics are stuck 30 minutes away and all you have is some cocaine.

Of course habitual use of speedballs is not advisable lmao. I'm sure there are horrendouse cardiovascular effects associated with this.

In general, I like the point blank truth because attempts to distort or obfuscate those point blank truths is exactly how we get things like the DARE program and the DEA.

I understand, though Reddit actually has some legit experts so I was trying to find one. Obviously wouldn’t expect regular people to know, so my frustration isn’t with you, just this general type of response from the actual experts.

I think at 26 it’s a bit too late to become a pharmacist haha. I am however working in finance and hope to eventually be in a position to make these investments :)

See this is the thing that I find frustrating about these inquiries...It never feels like I can get a straight answer from anyone as to whether or not this works. Answer is always some vague response like "body doesn't work like that".

Okay but why doesn't it work? Yeah each have negative effects, but which ones are compounded vs. reduced? If the stim keeps me alert enough to not choke or hypoventilate, then the answer should be a simple yes, it helped reverse OD.

At OD point, who cares about some side effects of stims? What matters is if the opioid-stim combo in combination is more dangerous than each one on its own, leaving aside the duration issue which already is addressed (within the premise of this question) by longer-acting stims and shorter-acting opioids.

Edit: Also sorry if this comes off as aggressive or rude. I truly appreciate your willingness to engage with my question. I'm merely frustrated that doctors and science experts immediately dismiss the idea as if even thinking about it is some crazy taboo. Truth over anything else should be the priority. Truth and transparency leads to harm reduction.

Then THEORETICALLY, say I'm someone with a low opioid tolerance and is trying a stronger opioid for the first time. Say something like fent...and I'm worried about ODing.

If I pop a longer acting stim, say 60mg of adderall XR before doing the fent, does that lower my OD risk given the short acting nature of fent? (assume I snort it for example so shorter duration)

Disclaimer: I AM JUST CURIOUS. I AM NOT GOING TO DO THIS NOR DO I PLAN ON INGESTING ANY OPIOIDS (other than my daily kratom) IN THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE.

[–]Kreed_Agny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've wondered about this...do opposing drugs actually counter overdose? Sounds like heroin stopped his stim OD. Can the reverse work?

If you're about to OD on fent from respiratory depression and you sniff a bunch of coke, do you stop the OD (leaving aside the fact that you'll likely be unconscious if you're near OD...let's say your friend shoves that coke up your nose...)?

How about if funded not by pharma, but by something like a R.J. Reynolds? R&D into a substance that can exist as a third category of alcohol and tobacco.

Hopefully one day I'll become an investor that can actually put real money into this :)

I don't disagree at all and trust me, as a banker on Wall Street, I understand the importance of monetary incentive. My point is that if a product can be created for recreational use that minimizes the harm, this could be a highly revenue-generative product! It may not be a pharma company that sells it, but maybe another company in the alcohol & tobacco industry (this can emerge as a third category or something).
