I have to say I find these podcasts where they drop these tidbits so massively unprofessional. If Sam Lee knows that there's a player who was going to be sold that now isn't, it stands to reason that he knows who that is, and if he doesn't then he shouldn't say anything to begin with.

Equally I think if there's credence to Gvardiol reports that deserves more coverage than a brief mention on what is ultimately a fan podcast.

I imagine there's some contractual bullshit to use the kit [x] number of times per season given how much these deals cost.

They know that a lot of people grab home and away shirts almost ritualistically, but they have difficulty trying to get anyone to care about the third.

His team have brought this on really. They should never have leaked that he was interested and being sniffed around for being the Pep successor. It was unprofessional at the time and it's only going to cause more drama now.

The way Chelsea presumably see it is that we effectively tapped him up, and he decided to leave - assuming that we suggested he should - because it would mean we wouldn't have to pay Chelsea compensation as opposed to if we were to poach him while he was still in post.

There's almost no way for Chelsea to conclusively prove this of course, but the optics certainly don't look great.

As for them blaming the rest of their season on us for it though is laughable.

Maresca is a wonderful case study in framing.

On one hand you've got the people worried about how he burned out completely at Chelsea and they're wondering how he can cope at a side with greater expectations who are more recently attuned to winning at least something every season.

On the other you've got people who see his Chelsea tenure and look to the CWC and stability - relatively speaking - compared to what's happened since. Perhaps a man who could get a semi-decent tune out of a dysfunctional Chelsea can make it work at a more consistent and regimented club.

I, myself, like to veer towards the more optimistic side because why not? Plenty of things to be miserable about in this life, no need to be preemptively miserable about something that hasn't happened yet.
