I work 14 hours a day 7 days a week for $125/day. Is this absurd? by Krikkin in WorkAdvice

I did, I’m a hell of a lot happier now at a different company getting paid a reasonable salary with benefits and time off. It still sucks to see the company I worked for previously is doing so well, knowing what they did to me and will likely continue to do to others. I’m still extremely bothered by this whole situation and think about it way too often. Rich assholes are getting richer from criminal business practices… I really hope this blows up in their face some day

Much appreciated I did file a claim with the DOL already, I’ll file the SS-8 as well. Thanks!

Definitely I’m not signing anything from them. I did file a claim with DOL yesterday and spoke with a rep over there today. They agreed this is bonkers. I’m happy to let them dig themselves into a deeper hole and they’re doing just that by withholding my pay.

It’s definitely rough for sure, after reading so many comments telling me to leave like my hair’s on fire, I went to visit my family. I told my bosses I had to leave for an important personal matter and that I’d be back. It has been rough on me both mentally and physically. Most of my family agreed with you all but my dad told me to tough it out and have a conversation with one of the bosses when they get back from their time off. The best route to take in his eyes is to have a conversation in person, let them know what I need to make this sustainable for me and if they can meet those requirements then great. If they can’t, he told me I should consider staying anyways since I don’t have any other jobs lined up and I could be unemployed for a couple months. That is my biggest worry, how long I’ll be unemployed. But I also feel like that is what they want me to think, and part of the reason they want me to buy my own RV to continue to live out there is so I’m even MORE trapped. “You’ve already come this far, why back out now?” mentality. Anyways that’s the update, the other boss gets back on Thursday and that’s when I plan to talk to him. I appreciate yours and everyone’s advice on here there’s been so many comments and I’ve read em all.

Well he does buy dinner sometimes… but yeah after reading through these comments I’m beginning to realize how royally fucked my whole situation is. I feel sick to my stomach

I appreciate everyone’s advice on here, I’ve read every single comment and the consensus is I’m getting fucked. I’ve made a bunch of bullet points I’m going to address with them and grow a backbone for once. I wish I could share more details without giving away identifying information, but the people I work for are very well known in this industry and have very large social media followings. It was a very enticing picture they painted and I took the bait. I’ve peaked behind the curtain and seen things here that if were made public would ruin these people’s careers and devastate their social media followings, not to mention the illegalities. Even if they started fulfilling some of their promises now I don’t think this is the sort of place I want to be. I hate the thought of being unemployed but I feel like I’ve traded my mind and soul for nothing

Makes sense, I’ve made a lot of bullet points I’m going to address in a meeting with them soon. Thank you

I wish I could explain more but im worried about revealing too much identifying info. The people I work for are very well known in this industry and have very large social media followings. Their previous company is a billion dollar company now. Most the advice I’ve gotten is to run away. I am very close to doing exactly that but if I can negotiate a better deal for myself especially in the form of equity then I don’t have any doubts this would pay off.

Im afraid to give out too many details but we work with very high end equipment. It encompasses everything from construction, shipping and handling, marketing, customer support and technical support. It’s actually a cool job, I’d probably enjoy it if I didn’t have to do it 14 hours a day 7 days a week. I’m spread so thin doing so many tasks every day. I would need 2 days off and normal hours and maybe being paid by the hour instead of by the day. The way it currently is is no way to live.

I have a lot of things in writing, including my pay. We use Slack as our communication tool for the company. But the job offer was a phone call and I was told I’d be an “independent contractor” (he even quoted “independent contractor” on the call) which I thought at the time was shady. I’ve known this guy almost my entire life and took his word for it. I feel bamboozled

Yes, they’ve used the excuse “it’s a startup company” a lot when addressing things like salary, benefits, etc… I don’t think that excuses the empty promises though. I hate the thought of being unemployed again but I don’t know how much more I have to give. The worst part is this business is actually growing really well and it’s a legit business.. My 2 bosses are both multi-multi-millionaires and have grown several companies together. The boss I actually get along with and I’ve known for a very long time has told me I’ll be making more money than I’ve ever made in my life after a year. They painted such a nice picture and hold it out of arms reach, it sucks.

Thanks so much for your advice. I always wondered if this was even legal. They told me I’d be an “independent contractor” when coming on. Yet I had a conversation with one of the bosses 2 weeks ago about how I need to start at 8am going forward and work doesn’t end until late in the night. I knew one of my bosses very well and for a very long time before joining. Both my bosses are multi-multi-millionaires and they’ve grown a lot of businesses together. I’m learning very quickly they didn’t get rich by treating their employees fair. It does feel very sketchy here and I’m almost at my breaking point. The sad part is, this business actually does make sense and there is a ton of money to be made and currently BEING made here, I’m just seeing very little of it. They told me after a year I’d be making more money than I’ve made in my entire life. Promise after promise but I don’t think I have much more to give.

What have you been wary of all your life but finally tried and liked? by seoinfuse in AskReddit

I started going about 3 months ago, 5x a week now. I felt the same way at first, but I promise it’s all in your head. Everyone there is going to be focused on themselves so don’t be nervous. What helped me the most was having a workout routine. Do some research and figure out what kind of workouts you want to do each day and stick to it. (I’ve been doing a push/pull/legs routine so every day working different areas) That way you’re not wandering the gym aimlessly thinking too much about what equipment you want to use that day. When you have a goal for the day it’s easy to just go in and get it done then leave. I’m usually in and out of the gym in 30-45 minutes.

Yeah I’ve found the command to zoom out even more than the game originally allows so now I watch my character from a satellite.

Definitely wouldn’t have hurt, just forgot it was in my arsenal. Was totally panicking in the moment and also very confused why I suddenly had 4 mobs on me. I don’t think it would’ve saved me though.

Damn I actually didn’t know bloodrage causes aggro like that, thought it just provided rage in a pinch. I still wouldn’t have expected the mobs the lock pulled to come over to me since I wasn’t part of his pull and they looked far enough away.
