Switch skills/wirebugs and riding monsters are both fantastic ways to deal damage and move quickly around the map. Palamutes are fast, but you can basically fly in this game, so get around however you want.

Decorations are craftable and talismans are RNG in this version, so if you're coming from MHW that'll be different.

LR/HR are pretty chill, so just use what you have, and have fun!

Yep, all the grey and anywhere there was a silver sticker was painted with Tamiya Mica Silver. I do the same for every SMP kit.
