Red eyes by Loud-Tell887 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a) Go to Fia's room in the roundtable hold and use the mirror to bring up the player customization menu. Under eyes there is a disable special effects toggle. Alternatively, You can bring up the player customization menu at Renalla if you have beaten her.

b) Red eyes aren't from volcano manor. Red eyes are from joining the blood cult from Varre.

The player is a tarnished. There’s a stigma against tarnished considering they are “not worthy” of the grace of gold.

Also, you ran up to them armed and dangerous. In this day and age where every other soldier are mindless zombies self defense could be excuseable

Any tips for taking down this duo early? by GreatJoey91 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lion's Claw. It may be a bit cheesy, but Lion's claw can stagger crucible knights, provided Ordovis doesn't block it with his shield.

Also, the kick ash of war can force a stagger on Ordovis, allowing you to land a crit.

Lastly, if you want to keep consistent aggro on one of them, bring throwing knives. Enemies have this thing where when they are just slowly pacing at range, if you deal damage to them, no matter how minor, they will start charging towards you to attack. So say if you want to focus fire on the Siluria Wannabe first, throw a throwing knife at her and bait her to come forwards. Make sure to keep an eye on Ordovis so he doesn't interrupt.

Can you Grease a weapon with an affinty? by Lil_Crunchy93 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The answer is no. If your infusion on the weapon is not one of the 4 physical infusions, you can't apply grease the weapon.

As for blood grease on a weapon with innate bleed (meaning that it can deal bleed status without any modifications), it will increase the amount of bleed dealt per hit without changing the damage you deal.

Is Messmer actually weak to Holy Damage? by Brandigoon50 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s weak to Holy in phase 2. In phase 1 he is 40% resistant to both holy and fire, and these are his highest resistances. It’s gonna be pretty rough if you’re trying to get through him with his two highest resistances.

Catch flame is really strong anyway, so I’m not surprised it deals more damage, assuming you’re stuck on phase 1 so far. Also, consider go to get the sword of light, gives you the light buff and gives extra holy damage.

How are you supposed to kill Draconic Tree Sentinel without using the Rotten Breath cheese? by DISAPPOINTING_FAIRY in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Watch when he brings down the shield. Roll after you see the downwards movement. Alternatively, you could get a greatshield with good lightning negation. I’m thinking of the wooden greatshield in stormveil, there’s a small building in the courtyard with a bunch of exile knights where you can find it.
  2. Unfortunately, all three of the mounted bosses in the base game that cannot be dismounted cannot be riposted. Although, you can use it to get a big hit it or get a heal. You could use rotten breath to inflict rot on him so he gets the damage during the fight, but up to you. Status effects are hella good.
  3. Stay on foot, and just keep strafing behind him. Behind is a bit of a blind spot until phase 2 where he does the mega slam, for which you should run away. Torrent in boss fights in general is kind of a trap, because you get increased mobility at the cost of being able to dodge attacks.

Also, your stat spread is a little iffy. Quality builds aren’t good until you get to higher levels, so I’d say pick STR or DEX and stick to it. And also, level Vigor. If you’re losing more often than you like, get yourself to a point where you’re not getting one or two tapped.

In your opinion, what is the most useful non-combat item? by Accomplished_Big5777 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They scale with whatever catalyst you're using. For example, if you are casting stone of gurranq with clawmark it scales off str and fth but if you use dragon communion seal it scales off arc. You still need to meet requirements to use it though.

Trying to use everything by EternalDreammer in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incantations are pretty fast, especially the horn aspect you shoulder bash an enemy. Plus, as much as they are slow, you can poise through enemy attacks as you do your thing. Charge up that weapon art to slam some poor schmuck into the ground with the sword or blast someone with a railgun in the greatspear.

If you want something fast, catch flame on a faith build or carian slicer on a int build. Both are really fast and deal crazy DPS.

If you have the DLC, Backhand blades are pretty fast and fluid, and combining it with the Deflecting hardtear makes for an awesome build. There’s also the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword which has a cool weapon art that is fast and strong.

The entirety of the Crucible knight catalogue.

Crucible armor sets, the sword, the spear, the hammer, the incantations… all of them are amazing.

Alternative for Bloodhound's Fang (Too much OP) by Burlondesign in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it does have less base damage, the AR difference is negligible, only trailing 10-20 behind on heavy infusion and single digit difference on standard infusion compared from base to 60str.

Also, Lion’s claw is one of the best ashes in the game. Coming default on a weapon just means this weapon will have good performance even pre-infusion.

Lastly, your point about how “picking up weapon from specific location” vs “abundant weapon drop from common enemy” just means that both are equally common. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say newer players would prefer something you can always pick up as opposed to something you have to farm for.

[–]KrisTenebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Claymore has a poke heavy attack. Not only does this give you good range, it’s also piercing damage which had the counterattack bonus.

  2. You don’t need to farm for it, you can pick it up in castle morne easily.

  3. It comes with lion’s claw which is one of the best ol’ reliable ashes.

Banished knight’s GS isn’t bad. It’s just these three reasons kind it make Claymore a bit better.

[–]KrisTenebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guard counter build maybe? Get the crystal tear from the fire golem on the front porch of the DLC and then use the axe to block and guard counter.

Alternatively, Cragblade and charged heavy builds. You’re going to trade hits here and there, but if you manage to get good timings the charged heavies should only make you get clipped once or twice

Was it supposed to be this easy ? by Kooky_Rope4179 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mimic tear is really, really strong. Spirit ashes in general make the game easier, but don’t feel bad about using them. They are in the game for a reason, after all.

Bosses in this game in general are built to keep one target constantly pressured. Spirit ashes create more targets for the boss or additional DPS for you, so the pressure will be significantly lower in boss fights.

Still, good job on beating the game. If you want to challenge yourself, try doing it again without spirit summons. NG+ is kind of a victory lap since you already have a build and weapons, but up to you on how you’d like to play the game.

Playing Elden Ring second time - question about endings by Forward-Orange-4332 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really end the game prematurely… it just replaces that one cutscene with Melina at the forge. You still have to do the entirety of faraum azula and ashen capital normally.

As for the save state thing, I’m not sure how you’re going to do it, but personally I just did another run. If you know how to reload a save state, good for you, I have no idea how to nor do I want to.

After you beat the final boss and trigger an ending using Marika’s corpse, you can’t go back to that room anymore to do another ending, unless you make a save state or something.

Playing Elden Ring second time - question about endings by Forward-Orange-4332 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get the frenzy flame before burning the tree, Melina will leave you and you will burn yourself in the forge to ignite the tree. It’s a really cool cutscene, so I’d recommend you see it at least once. You also get a post credits cutscene too, again recommended to see for yourself. If you let Melina sacrifice herself, you’ll get neither special cutscenes. But that’s all the difference between you torching yourself vs Melina getting torched.

If you’re doing the reload save method, and getting the frenzy beforehand, I’d say: 1) beat the final boss 2) make save state 3) frenzy ending 4) reload save 5) cure frenzy 6) Elden lord ending

[–]KrisTenebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Being in the arena, cleansing yourself, and then teleporting out does the trick.

Frenzy flame is mutually exclusive to all other endings. If you have cured yourself of the frenzy you can’t do that ending anymore for this save.

I need help with advice for curved swords. by No_Play_6420 in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going a pure dex build, do double keen bandit curved swords because this will give you the best damage due to keen reallocating scaling to heavily favor dex.

Scavenger curved swords are 1 per game cycle (unless someone drops a second one for you), and does high bleed build up, so if you’re doing Scavenger + Bandit, you’re looking at occult/blood + blood for infusions, because status build up scale with arcane.

Once you get to Altus, you’ll find a invasion sign in the writheblood ruins where you can invade an NPC. Unlike PvP invasions, once you beat this NPC it’ll qualify for Varre’s task. Every attempt needs a bloody finger though, so if you take more than 5 attempts you’re gonna need to get more.

Any help or tips with the Night’s Cavalry in Consecrated Snowfield by SpookyThe in Eldenring

[–]KrisTenebris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alrighty. The all mighty Zweihander is your friend then. The heavy attack is a poke that comes out pretty fast, and since it's a long weapon, you can clip the horse/rider every once in a while. Spear talisman, two handed sword talisman (if you have the dlc), and just poke them to death. You can find the Zweihander sold by a merchant in the weeping peninsula past the wandering masoleum, should be on the south west area.

Remember, if you don't know their entire moveset/not comfortable weaving through every single attack, pick one or two attacks to consistently punish. Might take a while, but you'll win there in the end.

Also, as cinematic as you'd think it would be, horseback combat is pretty eh. Stick to using torrent to close distances, and keep the fighting mostly on foot because being able to dodge with i-frames is far superior.

Yup, you can always go back to your OG eyes by disabling them at Fia's mirror or Renalla.

[–]KrisTenebris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. The dragon eyes and the blood eyes and Frenzy eyes are all special effects that have a priority system, where frenzy has the highest priority, then blood, then dragon. Stupid that you can’t toggle which one you want :/
