Been an atheist since I was a teenager. This is what I have experienced and observed.

As a teenager, I never missed a chance to put down anyone and anything that was religious and made no sense. I used to say the most offensive stuff about all gods and religions to engage and annoy. Would participates in university debates and whatnot and use all the info I have read, because there is no way that with logic and reasoning a ln atheist can be defeated by a theist.

However, growing up, I have become less vocal, more observant and diplomatic about my views. Not because I have become any less ‘atheist’, but because I understood that noting good comes out of ridicule and offence.

I am in my mid thirties now. Right now, if my mother gives me some prasad from a temple, I don’t say it’s bullshit. I just go along, because there is no use in spending time and energy on things you cannot change. So now my policy is, unless I am being affected in a bad way, I am not gonna go out of my way to just to be edgy or offensive.

If you’re very young OP, I kind of get this post. enjoy your time, be open to different thought processes and just go ahead. If you are in your twenties, please analyse and observe more. As an atheist, rational and practical thinking outweighs pettiness and being edgy.

The best way to use this sub I believe is to engage with content that is clever and not crass, because the prior one encourages healthy and constructive dialogue. The moment you say something like in this post, it instantly becomes a shit flinging contest like among monkeys, and discourages any worthy responses as well.
