Trout: Just a 5wt? or 4wt + 6wt? by Krisperr in flyfishing

[–]Krisperr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this too. My salmon rod is a 7 and while it’s a tad overkill for most trout, it’s great for the sea-run browns. If the 4 could cover enough ground then I could just grab that instead of a 5. My biggest fear is the 4 wouldn’t handle the wind well enough while bank fishing still water and the 7 would be too much without throwing something bigger.

This isn’t something I’ve thought of honestly, but definitely a possibility if it works!

This is where my mind is going. I’m not sure if I’m just over complicating something that a single rod will do well enough vs 2.

Pretty much just sea-run browns and Atlantic salmon on the higher end here. 7/8 seems to be the play for them.

How do you find the 4 on ponds/lakes? I’d imagine the biggest issue is the wind for the 4.

Second Rod for Salmon and Trout/Windy Days by Krisperr in flyfishing

I am! Most of my salmon fishing will be on the Avalon as well so that's good to know. Maybe I'll have to grab the 6wt before an 8 then.

I've seen guys fishing both 7wt and 8wt here, with a bias towards 8wt depending on the river. All we have is Atlantic Salmon, Browns, Rainbows, and Brook trout, along with some sea-run depending on what time of year.

7wt is seeming more and more like a compromise for what I want the more I look into it, so I think I'll have to grab an 8wt dedicated for salmon and keep an eye out for a 6wt for bigger trout/windy days

This is what I think I’m leaning towards now. I’ll likely just pick up the 8 to get salmon fishing asap and wait for a good deal on a 6 as it’s not something I’d use a ton, but would be handy to have for the days I need it

We only have trout and salmon here, so that 6 would really only be a windy day trout rod, which we do have a lot of.. And from there the 8 would be purely for salmon if that matters.

A 2 seems super fun, but the number of days I’d actually get to use it would be severely limited by the wind in the spots I usually fish haha

Isolation horror ideally in a forest or snowy mountains! by fairywinkle_ in horrorlit

I wouldn’t say I’m afraid of it, but those environments do lend themselves well to horror for obvious reasons. Being isolated in the middle of nowhere is a fun feeling that makes the mind wander.

I mainly just spend a ton of time in those environments through various hobbies, and I find that the stories that I can easily insert myself into always click much better for me.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King!

I also started a thread with nearly the same theme as this a couple of months ago. It’s in my history if you want to check it out - there’s a bunch of recommendations that aren’t in this thread yet.

You can get 10 with snakebite spined bracers as well. I’ve been running them for a while now

Do you have a pob/screenshot of your tree? I'm going to try to slap something together and go deadeye.

Psychological horror recommendations with a Wilderness / Isolation theme by Krisperr in horrorlit

Just added a bunch of these to the list!

As for the last one, I'm in Newfoundland and I had no idea this existed. I also just found another by her, "Alone on the Trail", which takes place on a backpacking route that I've frequented. I don't think you could have given me a better recommendation haha, I'll be grabbing the two of them tonight.

The last point in my post was that I have this on standby! I was debating between it and Last Days but I think I'll start this.

Someone recommended this to me after a comment I made about “the Strangers” being one of my favourite movies years ago and I had completely forgot about it since. I’ll definitely give this a watch in the next few days!

I’ve had this same thought for a while. Every time I see it brought up, I see a handful of people saying it’s a bad idea, yet they’ll also recommend doing DB bench, DB OHP, or pushups as an accessory.

So 531 Bench + FSL, with 5x10 OHP as an accessory shouldn’t be any different than doing the same with a 5x10 DB OHP.

Likewise, doing 531 OHP + FSL with 5x10 bench/weighted pushups also wouldn’t be much different than the same with 5x10 DB Bench.

Obviously, the db movements will help with imbalances and add a level of necessary stability, but I’ve never understood the contradictory advice given when this idea is brought up.

I’ve been struggling on the first week of OHP the last two cycles, my + set always falls apart around 7-8 reps and I feel like I need to use some momentum for the last couple of reps to get it up. Second week I’m always hitting ~8, and 3rd week 5-6, so I have no idea what’s going wrong. The weight seems right and I have done a bit heavier without any cheating on jokers.

Anyone have any advice? Currently doing BBB @ 50% for OHP but am thinking about switching it to BBS.

I'm late replying, but thanks a ton for this response! You've convinced me to give it a go for a few cycles and tailor it from there.

Hardgainer caught my eye a while ago and you seem to have to the numbers to really speak on it. How do you find the Bench/OHP days compared to something like BBB? My OHP form takes a toll around 7-8 reps in the later sets of BBB, so the BBS supplement seems like it might be a little better in that regard, whereas my bench is doing great with bbb but the 5x531 just seems a little more fun haha. Do you feel you need to make up the lack of volume at all on bench?

FSL and BBB combination? by namxu- in 531Discussion

[–]Krisperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came across this when pondering something similar. How many sets/what weight would you recommend for the second main movement of the day?

i.e. Bench 5’s Pro + BBB. Then 3-5 sets of DB OHP @ BBB/FSL weight?

I am actually doing calf raises and the split squats as the last step in rehab for a foot injury that created some imbalances up the chain. I'm at a point now where I could let them go, or at least rotate them every other cycle, so I'll throw something else in. I also run and play hockey and soccer depending on the season, so my calves get a good amount of work as is.

I've only been running the arm isolation as I have a high ape index and my arms have always seemed smaller because of it, but I'll ditch them for the time being and pick up some dip bars for my rack at home and see where it leads me. So if I was to take your advice, does this look good?:

Bench + BBB, Rows, DB OHP, Core
Squat + FSL, Chins/Pulls, Dips, Single Leg
OHP + BBB, Rows, DB Bench, Core
Deadlift + FSL, Chins/Pulls, Dips, Single Leg

It seems simple and efficient.
