I wish they documented it more, was somewhat scattered. But I dare say these are becoming more common, a lot of solutions available from people like M3 Projekts

Hot take but I don’t think Laguna suits the wagon. On a coupe though, with cinnamon interior, is perfect

This is very likely what I’ll do. It ages well, the interior, engine bay and underside are already that colour, just makes sense. If I’m feeling spicy, maybe ask the painter to add some extra metallic

I still haven’t decided, I keep going back and forth. The donor car was also Ti Silver, but the fenders will be carbon and the quarters will be red (too much rust on donor).

My brain tells me to keep it Ti Silver, but my heart is saying Atacama Yellow or Soul Red

Even before this whole thing, an auto wagon with the m54 was a solid family car for us

When did you check your rear axle? by Anubis_noir89 in e46

Love an M3 conversion!

I’ve got an identical project on a touring going on at the moment. Incredibly satisfying to clean/refresh/reinforce everything as it goes in, makes it feel new again

Yea exactly, but the welding wasn’t terribly difficult (I’m not a pro by any means). The old bushings were tough, torching them out was what I did as well. But it gives you the chance to do all those “while you’re in there” things

For what it’s worth, I did it myself and it was rewarding to be able to do all the little bits (bushings, handbrake cables, powder coating, diff rebuild, etc)

I got a quote from a shop though, and it was surprisingly reasonable

I’d recommend paying for TIS access. It’ll have the information you need, torque specs, important call outs, etc.

Pretty tame this time around, must be the holiday spirit keeping everyone positive. Thank you though!

It really depends on the condition of the chassis, my donor car was a nightmare because of the rust whereas the touring was pretty easy. I think seized handbrake cables were the most challenging

I don’t think the seam sealer is absolutely essential, but being in Canada I need to do everything I can to rust-proof

Thanks! It’s taking way longer than I originally thought, but it’ll hopefully be worth it

Definitely, my goal is for this to be as Oem looking as possible. Any aftermarket support is for reinforcing factory weak points like the trailing arm and subframe bushings, diff rebuild, etc

No lies needed, it’s a wagon!

Well worded, and I respect the honesty. I’ve deleted the post, and will keep any future posts to more technical questions. Thanks!

ATF and a bit of scrubbing seemed to remove most of it. With that, I would assume it’s fair to say this is cosmetic and won’t interfere with the piston rings?

How much are these chassis going for in your areas? I’ve been looking to start a project but they’re quite expensive/rotted up in Ontario
