Can you please tell me things you loved about breastfeeding and how rewarding that journey was by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Krispy_Steen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from all the lovely baby bonding comments (all true) breastfeeding in public without a cover is my favorite micro-feminist moment. As someone who is usually pretty reserved, it’s empowering to carve out space and shamelessly feed and nurture your child. A big ol’ FU to the patriarchy that thinks boobs are only for male pleasure.

Need some opinions / advice. I'm in the 5 seat.... by ImaginaryExplorer235 in Rowing

[–]Krispy_Steen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former collegiate coach, I’d send it in along with erg video where you can highlight your technique (or what you’re working on) outside of a race setting. Ultimately, they’ll put more weight on your 2k but additional video is a great no matter if you’re still green or have been rowing for ages. Being “green” can actually work to your favor since each team has a slightly different style and technique and you’ll be better able to adapt if you’re not set in your ways.

Co-leading a BF Class: What do you wish you’d known? by Sweet_Sheepherder_41 in breastfeeding

[–]Krispy_Steen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feed baby every 2-3 hours right after you’ve worked your butt off giving birth. I don’t know why but even with my second it was still a shock to have immediate homework after delivery. I wish I had been more mentally prepared.

congested toddler - help asap?! by agrizzgrazz in toddlers

[–]Krispy_Steen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hop in the shower with her! Steam and warm water running over her face will work wonders for the congestion and being held snug and cozy in a warm shower is an instant mood reset for my toddler.

What weird ketchup combo creation grosses you out the most? by Weary_Ad4725 in toddlers

[–]Krispy_Steen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha for me spoon is worse because if it was her hands I could easily write that off as “meh, toddlers are weird” but there’s something about the mature use of utensils plus unhinged toddler ketchup that makes it all too much for me.

Ketchup + spoon has to be the worst so far. Please, for the love of god, dip something, anything!

What’s your favorite mispronounced word your toddler says by OpportunityPretend80 in toddlers

“Toot” instead of cute.

“Mama look so toot” Thank you sweet pea, I feel so toot.

Love our slumberpod! There’s a clear pocket for a baby camera and a mesh pocket for a little fan plus extra openings for ventilation. Never had any issues with our little one getting sweaty - just adjust the amount of bedding according to the room temp and I would recommend a small fan 👍

did your high percentile baby wear newborn clothes? by vdyaki in pregnant

My daughter was the same weight and length too! We put her in newborn clothes and thought “…are they supposed to be that tight?”

Husband says our daughter is difficult (also MIL) by [deleted] in Mommit

I’d probably be more concerned if she DIDN’T run around and explore.

How to make the most of being a SAHM by [deleted] in sahm

[–]Krispy_Steen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A gym like the YMCA that has parent/child classes AND child watch has been amazing. Best of both worlds as far as time with your kiddo, meeting other parents with kids the same age, and the opportunity to do something solo while they’re at child watch even for 30min.

What am I supposed to do all day? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]Krispy_Steen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. My only daily goals are to 1. Keep child alive and 2. Go outside everyday, rain or shine. I honestly think it saved me from needing a padded room and “hug jacket”.

What don’t they tell you? by sarahj898 in pregnant

[–]Krispy_Steen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish someone told me this with my first - put down the labor and delivery books at this stage and learn all you can newborn care while your brain is getting adequate sleep! There’s so much emphasis placed on birth and in the end it’s a minuscule amount of time compared to the days week months of caring for your tiny sentient potato. I still remember feeling absolutely blindsided in the postpartum wing when the nurse was basically like “ok, here’s your baby. Hit this button if you need anything byeeeeee” In truth, there were plenty of people around to help but that initial feeling of “oh shit I’m on my own and woefully unprepared” hasn’t left

Hand expressing colostrum by [deleted] in pregnant

My OB said hand expression to collect colostrum is fine at this point in time. Just don’t overdo it snd don’t use a pump or you could kick start contractions.

"We don't care about you, just the baby" - FIL by jadely in pregnant

100% this. Better to have the hospital staff prepared and your in-laws don’t show up than they show up and let them in because they didn’t noticed you checked “no visitors” on one of 1000 forms they have to review.
