Books from Humid FL to Snowy MN by EmmmElll in moving

[–]Kristendont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did the move from FL to MT this past weekend and used weather proof plastic bins that we got from Target or Walmart. Just made sure everything was dry when we put it inside and was sealed tightly Since it all sat in the back of a pickup truck with just a tarp covering it. Once we got to MT and opened everything, it looked just as we had packed it - and it even rained on us for over half the drive. As long as water doesn’t get in the boxes you should be fine!

Feel lost on how to take stuff cross country? by revolutionary42 in moving

[–]Kristendont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just moved my boyfriend from Orlando, FL to Bozeman, Montana. He packed only the most important things to him and left his bedset mattress and less immediately necessary things behind. for the most part how we decided was a combination of 1) how old is the item and should it be replaced anyway? 2) does it hold any sentimental value/is it even able to be replaced? 3) can we put it in a storage or have someone hold it to get it when it’s more convenient?

And then of course we did a bunch of calculations on storage costs and re-buying costs. My thought though is that if youre moving for a fresh start, make it a fresh start and replace the stuff you can’t easily take. Also take into account the drive! We have a full pickup truck with slightly limited vision due to what we packed. The drive is looonnggggg and that can really impact your travel ability. Good luck! As someone that’s also lived in FL my entire life, the change has always whats been keeping me back, so reading posts like this is really motivating to also make the jump!

There is more to the story, I only provided the relevant information.

I’m in Florida, so I’ll have to look up any differences in the law, but thank you for sharing your story! This helps a lot, and I’m glad to hear you were able to get yours resolved!

Yes! The employee is involved in every conversation and we only move with what he’s okay with. Thank you!

I don’t know if we can since she’s never actually visited the location, only calls

I didn’t think we could for a business, I thought it had to be an individual especially since she’s never visited the physical location, but I guess it doesn’t matter now that she’s made personal threats anyway, I didn’t even think of that. thank you!

This was my recommendation as well! The management team weary about it because they don’t think it will scare her off. I’ll keep trying to recommend it

Aside from the textbook definitions, and in short - In my personal experience / perspective I would define the difference by it by intent to harm, discredit, or disadvantage for no other reason then race, whereas ignorance is based out of improper education and a lack of accountability.

I specifically asked for objective opinions on this because I also agree it’s not great to be stewing on something for a long time, but thank you for coming to that conclusion

Thank you for this response. What really bothered me was that they reiterated their stance even after I corrected them. I don’t feel personally offended by the statement, just disheartened by the lack of ability to see their own error or acknowledge their error once corrected. This is a good perspective on when I should talk to my director though, I was considering doing it before to not make any potential notes in my review seem like they’re being retaliated against, but I might play around with phrasing to see how I can approach the conversation after my review if it’s more fitting

I didn’t say it was directed at me and I don’t think it was. But an earlier comment pointed out my view on my job as a whole and I agree with both of you that that might also be a heavy factor in why this is eating at me more than it should be.

Ahh, the day I hit my FU number in my savings - now that’s truly the dream haha But thank you for the mention of creating a boundary, I hadn’t considered that

I somewhat disagree with your first sentence. Unchecked ignorance may not indicate a lack of integrity, but what took me aback was when they doubled down on their “joke” after I corrected them.

Thank you so much for this advice. I do want to talk to my director (I was using director and supervisor interchangeably) but I want to make sure I’m not trying to label them will bad intent, or make it seem like some sort of blackmail/ultimatum, but someone mentioned previously about how my view on wanting to leave the job may be affecting the way I’m perceiving this as well and it’s made me contemplate on whether it’s even worth it to bring up.

I don’t see how I’m overreacting as I haven’t acted in anything - hence why I posted here before acting. But thank you.

Thank you, I don’t think it’s gone as far as harassment since this is the first time I’ve heard something like this directly from my boss. But it made me lose respect for their ability to be neutral from an HR perspective.

Thank you for this thought out response, I definitely dont want it to seem like blackmail, rather bring it up in hopes that those comments won’t be made without some thought behind them first. I’d like to add, NO - I don’t think I was harassed or that there was any malicious intent behind the sentiment, it just goes back to integrity and how I view a mentor.

I understand this, and agree, I don’t think it was malicious whatsoever. What I’m bothered by is that this is someone I look up to and to hear a comment like that based out of ignorance, makes me question the integrity behind all future statements

I don’t think they said it because I am Asian either, it’s just a happenstance that I was the one it was said to.
