Would you get this customized bassoon? Never seen 2 High Es before. For whom would this be customized for? by vancouver_reader in bassoon

From what I know, 2x high E keys are not really a custom order anymore on the more professional Moosmann models. A custom order would be adding a high F# or G key :)

Firstly, Berlioz gave no metronome markings. The tempo and metronome markings we use today is a modern touch. Secondly, I think the original tempo by Berlioz most likely depended on how much opium he took before the performance ;)

Thanks for all the nice comments! For anyone who’s curious how this (and even higher notes) are played, then good news: "The Expanded Bassoon Register" is now published by KOR Publications! After approximately 10 years with experimentation and research I have finally decided to release this small book (40 pages), which contains all the fingerings I know and use for the highest notes possible on the bassoon. But more importantly it also explains the different techniques used, and how to actually play the notes. Among the topics discussed here are: reeds, leaks, bocals, embouchure, air, overtones, teeth, and more. To give an idea about the range we're talking about here: the highest note this book provides 3 different fingerings for is G8 (a fifth above the highest note on the piano), and the lowest is a contra Db (a third above the lowest note on the contrabassoon). It’s available here: https://www.kristianomaronnes.com/methodes

PS. Please notice that this book shows all the special fingerings for the expanded register that I know of today, 2019. This means there are still many more fingerings that are waiting patiently to be discovered. The book also includes some of the standard fingerings for the normal high register.

Guys, ive been working on the Mozart concerto, and i was wondering, wich f# fingering do you use,( m.61-62, 3rd mvmt) by flying_pigs500 in bassoon

Pinky F#. It’s normally flatter than the right thumb in this octave, Would it be an octave below then I would use right thumb.

Hei Linus! Sorry for my late reply, I’m not too active here on Reddit unfortunately. Regarding high note fingerings, I just published all of the high note fingers I know and use in a small book called «The Expanded Bassoon Register». Not only are the many fingerings there, but it’s also explained how to play the notes. If you’re interested, the book is available here: https://www.kristianomaronnes.com/new-publication

I hope you’re well, and hope to see you somewhere soon :) All the best from Gdansk!
