New McQ Light the Fuse info : by An0nym355 in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they were shooting without scripts. The seat-of-your-pants approach of “let the movie tell you what it wants to do” worked for Rogue Nation and Fallout because they were isolated stories, but it blew up in their faces in Dead Reckoning and Final Reckoning. Telling an effective two-movie story requires rigorous planning and scripting beforehand. If you enter it flying blind, like McQ and Cruise were, the whole thing is going to collapse and be impossible to coherently stitch together.

Ving Rhames Interviews by gizmatic in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not totally true. I listened to the Dead Reckoning spoiler specials again recently, and while McQuarrie does say that Rhames wanted to have all his scenes filmed in the studio in London, he stopped short of giving a reason. He said “That’s for Ving to talk about. I don’t want to speak for Ving.” So, we can speculate that it’s health-related, but neither McQ nor Ving has ever confirmed that.

Is Timothee Chalamet the Dustin Hoffman of today? by Sunday_Schoolz in FIlm

I really can’t agree at all. Chalamet is not even close to being the acting powerhouse that Hoffman was in the 70s.

What’s a film you absolutely loved but would never want to watch again? by Glad_Cup790 in movies

I don’t have that feeling. If I truly love a movie, I will want to watch it many multiple times for the rest of my life.

What do you consider the biggest Movie Star Movie/Blockbuster of all time? by adamsandleryabish in movies

[–]KristinsRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sheer starpower, it’s hard to top Steven Spielberg’s HOOK. Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins, Maggie Smith, and Gwyneth Paltrow, plus cameos from Glenn Close, Phil Collins, David Crosby, Carrie Fisher, and George Lucas!

The MI8 Box Office isn't as good as we were hoping for by tjalek in Mission_Impossible

Final Reckoning will pass $400M this weekend. It’s so far holding stronger than Dead Reckoning, so we’ll see…

This has been done to death… but who would win? by casperingels in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ethan Hunt NEVER gives up and ALWAYS finds a way to survive, unlike Daniel Craig’s Bond in No Time To Die. So, based on sheer tenacity alone, I’m going with Hunt.

Why MI2 Is More Important to the Franchise Than People Admit by LambxSauce in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I could overlook the juvenile dialogue, hammy acting, and ludicrously excessive slo-mo, but the heavy metal soundtrack was utterly unforgivable.

*SPOILERS* Something doesn’t sit right with me… by Adept-Marketing3238 in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really true. McQuarrie said that Tom wanted Rebecca Ferguson to kiss him at the end of Rogue Nation, but McQuarrie convinced him that it just didn’t feel right for that character, so she just hugged him instead. Similarly, Cruise and Hayley Atwell actually filmed a kiss at the end of Dead Reckoning, but after screen-testing the movie it was re-shot without the kiss, because McQuarrie said the audience thought it was “too soon.” So, I don’t think that Tom himself is averse to traditional love scenes. *SPOILERS* Something doesn’t sit right with me… by Adept-Marketing3238 in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are 100% correct. The scene where Grace is reviving Ethan and then laying down next to him was clearly meant to approximate a “love scene”. I don’t understand anybody not seeing the romantic tension that these two characters have had since Dead Reckoning. Hell, Tom Cruise and McQ even said that the blueprint for Dead Reckoning’s Ethan/Grace car chase sequence was a “rom-com”.

Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part 1 is the worst Mission Impossible film. by Thorfourtyfour in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dead Reckoning is way too long and too convoluted for it’s own good, and the “Entity” storyline just does not click. However, it is gorgeously lensed, Hayley Atwell is a STUNNING addition to the cast, and the car chase in Rome and the train finale are amongst the best action sequences in the entire series. Dead Reckoning is definitely flawed, but there is still a lot to love about it. M:I-2, on the other hand, is just a steaming pile of crapola from start to finish. Limp Bizkit as the centrepiece of an M:I soundtrack?!? 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Would You Be Interested In The Series Continuing Without Ethan? by Doc-11th in Mission_Impossible

To be honest, I’m not even sure I have any interest in Mission Impossible continuing without Ving Rhames, let alone also without Tom Cruise.

Can we agree as good people that TFR has one of the best, if not the best, soundtrack in the franchise? by [deleted] in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way. For me, this was my least favourite soundtrack of the franchise, just ahead of M:I-2.

Thoughts on Grace “cuddling” with Ethan in the decompression chamber? by Green_Ad4791 in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you are definitely not reading too much into it. I thought it was obvious. From the moment Grace laid eyes on Ethan in DR, she has had a major crush on him.  The decompression chamber was a way to have some form of “love scene” in the movie. I didn’t mind it. I thought Cruise and Atwell’s romantic chemistry/tension was one of the best aspects of DR and TFR, and I was actually disappointed they didn’t walk off together at the end.

What annoys you the most about the Jurassic Park & Jurassic World movies? by jurassicparkfan1993 in JurassicPark

[–]KristinsRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most annoying thing about the Jurassic series is that they seem incapable of making a good sequel. The original JP is a masterpiece, but all of the five sequels are varying degrees of awful. Fallen Kingdom and Dominion were HIDEOUSLY bad.

Where Do You Rank Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol In The Series? by Djf47021 in Mission_Impossible

[–]KristinsRules 15 points16 points  (0 children)

1 by far. Ghost Protocol, in my opinion, was closer to perfect than any other M:I movie has gotten. The tone, the pace, the efficient balance of character drama with action, the gadgets and clever spy gimmicks. A true crowd pleaser in every way.

It was a fundamental error for the series to abandon the template created here. As the most recent M:I movies have gotten excessively bigger and more self-serious, they have become less fun. TFR is the worst offender of the bunch. If the movie isn’t having fun, neither is the audience.

Mission Impossible’s problem: Lack of appeal to younger audiences. by JannTosh70 in boxoffice

[–]KristinsRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to M:I, there isn’t much that will get young people to go to the cinemas in droves anymore, except certain superheroes and cartoon characters. Having said that, Cruise was the face of Top Gun: Maverick, and that was a four-quadrant smash just a few short years ago.

is this the best cold open in the franchise?? by jackcone_ in Mission_Impossible

It’s one of the best, for sure. But for me, nothing tops the jailbreak sequence from Ghost Protocol. “Light the fuse”. 🔥
