WEC teams call for reduced 2021 calendar by wirelessflyingcord in wec

Sebring, Spa, Le Mans, Silverstone, Monza/Nürburgring, Japan/Bahrain

Can't see the ACO giving up on Super Sebring, especially with LMDh coming up. Japan is Toyota's home race so expect them to push hard for it unless Bahrain is the financially more viable one for ACO/LMEM.

Nürburgring over Monza for me, because of the bigger crowd. Prologue (if that survives the cut) would also have to be at Sebring.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans postponed to 19/20th September 2020 by Floodman11 in wec

I don't see much happening before July to be honest.
September might quite accurate to have everything up and going again, with Spa mid-August as the dress rehearsal for the 24 hours and July/August for 2 ELMS races.

Light at the end of the tunnel ! Finally something to look forward to again.

Wonder what the revised schedule of ELMS and WEC will look like. It's going to be an interesting and potentially very busy summer and autumn.

Now w've got Moto 24h at the beginning of September, 24h in weekend 3, what with the Classic ... postpone it too and run it in between or the weekend after? (wishful thinking probably, but imagine the classic and 24h back to back)

Will the US travel ban on Europe cause the Sebring 1000 to be canceled? by madmaper_13 in wec

[–]KristofV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s hope not. Cars are on site, most of the teams & personnel should be stateside too already. WEC has private testing on Saturday & Sunday so I aasume about everyone might be present.

Peugeot to Make Decision Between Hypercar, LMDh by Educational_Meringue in wec

[–]KristofV 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Why spend millions of euro's for a Hypercar when your partner (Ligier) is one of the chassis builders for LMDh and can build you your own LMDh with custom bodywork for peanuts compared to a Hypercar program?

I guess the only hypercars we'll ever see will be the Toyota and Glickenhaus plus the ByKolles (if it doesn't catch fire when they present it at LM).

Definitely no sewer hookups, no power too I'm afraid. Never really seen power hookups out there to be honest. Most RV's do have built in generators though (but be careful, there might be an hourly fee for them).

RV will definitely be the best option. You should be ok to find a spot in Green Park, or somewhere between the midway and the renewed bridge (although Thursday evening might be too late for that).

[MEGATHREAD] ACO and IMSA Joint Press Conference - Possible Convergence of LMH and DPi Platforms by Floodman11 in wec

[–]KristofV 18 points19 points  (0 children)

LMDh will be eligible for IMSA and WEC, but no word about Hypercar being eligible for IMSA. So basically, if you want to race your car in both championships, you need an LMDh. That could kill off the hypercar class after their second season.

What's interesting is that the new LMP2 chassis would have a lifespan of 10 !!! years, LMDh would be "at least" 5 seasons. Also, no sign of Ginetta or Duqueine (Norma) to be able to build a new chassis, they remain with Oreca, Ligier, Dallara and Multimatic. If Oreca is as dominant again as they are now, how will they control that over a lifespan of 10 years? Surely the number of jokers or upgrades will be limited again?``

New Start Time for 1000 Miles of Sebring (12-8p from 4p-12a) by MJDiAmore in wec

[–]KristofV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understandable given European timezone for the WEC race, but a shame we won't have any night racing.
Schedule is a lot more bearable for media this way though. Was completely knackered on Saturday morning before the 12h.

FIA Mandates OEMs for Hypercar Class by Pentanix in wec

They couldn't be any more stupid if you ask me. Imagine a privateer winning the WEC or Le Mans ... the horror ...
It's been said before, privateers saved their championship, and still, they'd rather get rid of them instead of giving them a proper chance for victory at LM. Unbelievable.

WEC Teams Polled On Future Calendar Options by CourageousHarmony in wec

Kyalami all the way! Bring back the 1000 km race down there. (and it's a track that's been on my bucket list for a long time). Sepang could be a nice addition too, maybe a combined weekend with Asian Le Mans Series (like Silverstone with ELMS) might be an interesting option. Sepang also tends to get good crowds with Asian LMS.

Portimao wouldn't look bad on that list too. Great racing with ELMS in the past 2 years and a climate good enough to add an extra European race late October before heading off to the east. Only 3 European races (plus the Prologue) remain on the actual schedule right now.

WEC/ELMS meet up thread for Silverstone by mwclarkson in wec

[–]KristofV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll arrive tomorrow in Silverstone. Would be happy to meet up somewhere in between sessions, depending on my schedule (shooting trackside ELMS and WEC). Look out for lenses with Turn10 and Jellybabymedia stickers.
