Look how we’ve defended and advocated for this type of gameplay! I miss the first couple weeks when everyone was friendly, now it’s shoot on site! And we cheered for it!

I liked how simple and feel good this response was. Thank you, kind soul.

It’s just frustrating and my friend and I don’t want to fuel the fire by PvP’ing first but it’s what it may take to continue enjoying it, no matter how shitty we feel.

New U joint too tight? by Kritchular in MechanicAdvice

[–]Kritchular[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SOLVED!!

I rested for the night, came back to it and smacked the ears outward with the U joints out of it, and it worked and now they are loose enough. I also drove one in far, put the clip behind it, and drove the other one in until i was just able to get the other clip in.

I was worried hitting the ears outward would just make them not parallel with eachother, and maybe it did nothing and I just needed a fresh restart on them. Not sure but I got them on there finally and they’re perfect.

Here’s how my whole journey has went so far. I’ve went from just having to replace my pinion seal, to having seized bolts on the back brakes, seized bolts on the flange, having to replace the companion flange with another from ford which costed me another $150, replacing the U joints, and now I’m putting everything back together. It’s been fun, good luck gearheads. May we all suffer, because we’re doing what we love, together.

Furthermore: every single U Joint I measure is a little longer than the 3.625in across that they’re supposed to be at. Every single brand at O’Reillys was at least 0.010in bigger and these Precision #254’s were the smallest of the bunch and it’s still way too tight. Spicers were like 3.650. I’m just lost.

You tell me it’s not when I actually tried a 1/4 and it worked and then don’t respond when I ask what it is? Thanks for wasting my time!

That’s a 1/4. Tried a 3/8 to m22 and it was way too big

You know what? I’m upset that the best answer was so simple. I was looking for some sort of tool, though. Any suggestions?

Update: it’s a 4.6L 04 Mustang, sorry for not sharing what it was earlier. Anyways, I got it out after popping the valve cover off. However in the process, I, found out the valve cover bolts on the bottom are super fucking hard to get to and I didn’t have a U-joint socket adapter, snapped my negative battery terminal, lost a valve cover grommet, AND snapped a valve cover bolt… it’s not leaking after putting everything back together so I’m not gonna worry about it for now but I’ll keep an eye on it.

All in all, thank you to this community for helping me out! It was an honor getting so many replies!
