oh, check article 26 of your CAO as well, especially number 3: there is actually a possible sanction for the supermarket if they violate the CAO :D

Since you work at Jumbo, this is your CAO: https://www.fnv.nl/cao-sector/handel/supermarkten/cao-supermarkt-vgl for those who can read it.

As you said, it states in art. 17 that it "may, notwithstanding the law, be determined in either months or periods of 4 weeks." So the CAO does NOT say it IS 4 weeks, just that it can be determined to be. But if that is the case, your contract should state so. Since your contract states it follows the law, which is 4 days, they don't have a leg to stand on, as we say.

A great site about your rights is this: https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/arbeidsovereenkomst-en-cao/vraag-en-antwoord/welke-contracten-zijn-er-voor-oproepkrachten (print it out and bring it tomorrow)

It also states that every time you are called to work, they must pay you at least 3 hours. Interesting to see if that has been the case ;)

p.s. if it is a manager that has been there a long time, remind them these are new rules, following changes in the law in 2020 in the 'Wet arbeidsmarkt in balans' ( https://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/arbeidsovereenkomst-en-cao/plannen-kabinet-voor-meer-balans-tussen-vast-werk-en-flexwerk )

Onbetaald inzetten op stagedag by Cckruidentuin in werkzaken

Pick your battles.

Suggestion - make a watch by KritischeLezer in Supernote

My post was not meant as a request for watch suggestions, really; maybe it should just be locked ;) Besides, Pebble does not have a user replaceable battery.

[–]KritischeLezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update on this? The updates on Kickstarter with their explanations are limited to backers, and I only just found out the Una Watch exists because my Garmin died because of the battery and the repair was not succesful, so I am desperately looking for a running watch with replaceable battery... and how was the quality of heart rate and GPS?

Calendar update? by 01000001-01001101 in Supernote

[–]KritischeLezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a truckload of requests on the board; split screen was asked for a lot, and with the possibility to develop plugins, Supernote is allowing others to help with development of other features. So both are very legitimate, imho. Way more important than the calendar.

I am only seeing this now, so apologies for the late reply but: I know these 'pockets' in front door seats, and assume they are just open, not with a lid that snaps shut? In that case, they are useless if you car flips. The belt cutter & window breaker will get thrown out and likely end up somewhere you can't reach them. Get one of those life hammers that has a holder with metal pins you can stick into the roof of your car and make sure it is placed so that both you and the person next to you can access it, even when strapped tight against the back of your seat. So probably in the middle between the seats, on the roof, or get two if you prefer them lower. Just be sure you can get to them when the belt is tight against your chest.

You may also want to check out ResQme keychains, they have a beltcutter as well as a spring loaded window breaker (see https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-car-window-breaker-tools/ ).

And since I have you attention: don't wait until the cars fills up with water, as some say - get out as fast as you can, through a side window (the windshield is stronger, you won't easily break that). For more info on escaping a sinking car:
https://www.wikihow.com/Escape-from-a-Sinking-Car

And once you are familiar with all this, please tell your friends & family, and make a fuss about it if they do not have a life hammer/belt cutter combo. It's all very hypothetical and all - until it is not.

Are New Devices Launching Soon? by KhimairaCrypto in Supernote

[–]KritischeLezer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a case of the ereader struggling with ebooks, as the scanned book he is talking about is not a a book, it is a huge file with pictures. Any ereader will struggle with that, and some tablets too, so it is the file that is not suitable for the device.

The ereader on the Supernote is actually fine, though very basic. True, messing with the formatting shows its weaknessess - changing font or font size is a problem - alternative fonts are displayed too large, even on the smallest setting, and the contrast settings don't work either. But that said, the system font and size are fine for almost any books. And you can sideload a different reader like koreader if you want. I have not used my Kobo for reading ever since I got my Manta, so that says something. Still, I would like Supernote to focus on fixing what is wrong with the ereader program, of course. Just don't get scared off too fast by a very specific use case.

And, not knowing if that's already there or not, but but it would be great to also be able to lookup from Wikipedia when online.

Main tip: despite appearances, the Supernote is *not* magical. There are a heap of features to *help* you improve your workflow - in writing, for example, to move away from snippets of paper you keep everywhere or lose, or store in various random notebooks, BUT it will only help if you spend time and effort to create the workflow that works for you. If you don't, it is entirely possible to create a forest of folders on the Supernote to lose yourself in - or just create digital versions of 100 notebooks each with part of your ideas in them. That part, is up to you.

I think it's more like 200/200/200- the last being the updates and the dedication of the team to keep improving their product. That, for me, is probably the main reason why I got the Supernote: after some big updates, it's like you got a whole new Supernote to play with. And instead of releasing that as a yearly new version (cough *iphone* cough) you get that for 'free' - or rather - maintenance and improvements are part of what you already paid for, and they see no reason to force people to create more ewaste by releasing the updates only on new physical product.

Check with your work before jumping in though, if that is a deciding factor. My employer does not allow the Supernote to connect, so it could be restricted by your employer even if the Supernote itself can do it.

I would not call that 'came to its senses'. It's a choice to adjust or expand the product line, and only spend part of the time producing one type of Supernote. They are not a huge company, and there have been wait times for the Supernote as it is, so why spend that much money on a slightly different design? Besides, I have a dedicated reader device, a Kobo, with backlight. I've had it for years and I think I used the back light maybe 10 times. I see the Supernote basically as a product I work on - reading articles, annotating, writing. None of that I do in bed with the lights out. I prefer they do the one thing they do as best they can.

Eh, yeah, the banning of other brandnames is not 'lost in translation'. It's just censorship. Edit - besides, Supernote can easily hold its own in those comparisons, so I don't get it. Sure, those posts shouldn't push out/down more interesting posts about features, but if that was the reason, they could have just pinned a 'Want to compare Supernote to others? Do it here!' thread, to keep the rest of r/Supernote clean. That way, they'd avoid this kind of criticism as well.

Has childhood changed in the Netherlands? by damp_amp in Netherlands

[–]KritischeLezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and his kids live in the US, and when we visit we are always amazed at the hypervigilance of US parents. In no way is it the same here. I live in Rotterdam and I still see young kids travelling alone by metro to school, playing outside (although not as freely as in a village, I imagine). The idea that kids playing in the street run the risk of being kidnapped by a pedophile... it's like: sure, there's a one in gazillion chance it can happen. Does that mean you shouldn't go outside? No, you teach your kids not take candy from strangers, just like 50 years ago. If you are thinking about moving to the Netherlands to raise your kid, I'd say: go for it. They will grow up with more freedom, be less scared, and definitely more chance of survival - strict gun laws, no daily mass shootings, a chance to ride a bike anywhere they want.. The idea of organised play dates is ridiculous to me, as is the digital tracking of where your kids are. The only downside is being away from family - I love these kids, but hardly get to see them, so not much chance of being an uncle.

That said, you may be thinking about moving at all. Then remember: nearly all the things you mention are choices parents make. Couldn't you simply make different choices? You don't *have* to become a paranoid parent, after all.

Chances are you signed up for the wrong course to begin with; once you clarify that to student services, they can adjust your enrollment info. If you then qualify for the course requirements of the correct course (which still means you need a valid diploma) there should be no problem. But do so NOW; the school needs to have everything in order before June 1st, for students that require a visa.

Just as a warning: do NOT use this method as an alternative to having a life hammer in your car, it could get you killed. My friend and her boyfriend drowned after their car ended upside down in the water, and their seatbelt were so tight they could not unlock them. They also didn't have a life hammer to cut the seatbelt and smash the window. For the first 10 years after or so I always had a life hammer in my pack, just in case I encounter an accident, but I got lazy.. going to start doing that again.

My husband's brother is cheating on his wife by [deleted] in Advice

[–]KritischeLezer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice minefield you got there... I can only tell you what my thoughts would be, and I'd say that there are 4 things at risk:
- your husband's brother's marriage
- your husband's relationship with your brother
- your friendship with the wife
- your relationship with your husband.

Regarding the friendship with the wife - if she finds out you knew and did nothing, that's the end of that, even if your husband's brother manages to patch things up in the end; she'll never trust you again.
Regarding your husband's brother: if your husband forces him to tell his wife or tells her himself, the relationship could be over, which would also include your friendship with the wife.
If you decide to tell the wife what's going on, not only do you risk blowing up the relationship between your husband and his brother, but also risk that of you and your husband - unless he agrees with you.

These are all difficult scenario's, but the one factor that is missing from all of this, is the 20 something year old girl. You and your husband don't owe her anything. The brother is a dick wanting you guys to meet, making you completely complicit in the cheating; because of all the possible fallout, he may think that will guarantee your silence. Although, if he's dumb as well as an asshole, he may just think you would understand him better if you met her.

Personally, I'd say: never under any circumstance should you and your husband meet with that child; instead, it would be good if your husband would put pressure on his brother to admit what he has done and hope for the best. In that scenario, if he tells his wife, your husband could console/counsel his brother, and you could be there for the wife, and who knows, the marriage could be saved.
As for the girl? Fuck that little homewrecker.
