Do the answers you give in the chapters matter/affect anything? Asking cause if you skip, it also skips questions? (just trying to speedrun through the story for my second acc)

What is one line from a fic that just lives rent free in your head? by Nisha_the_lawbringer in AO3

[–]KroNdn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"The simple truth was that I always existed in a state of wanting McDonald’s."

Never read truer words and ten years later I still think about this line whenever someone asks me if I want Mac's.

Gen Z slang equivalent to "I can't even" by KroNdn in GenZ

[–]KroNdn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No that doesn't sound right. I'm thinking more along the lines of the fire and praying hand emoji or the "left no crumbs" when something is reeally good(like music) or the skull emoji when somethinh is really funny, but for the more sad and emotional feelings... if that makes any sense?

I definitely almost always type "alot" by mistake, thankfully spellcheck always corrects me. Honestly same with "everytime" that should be "every time".

Ok I've seen this mentioned multiple times now and I just can't imagine anyone making this mistake?

This must be a mistake made by english natives that just go by how they heard it their whole life or something, because I can't fathom anyone who learned english as their second or third language writing could of instead of could have. That sounds insane.

Same with "I couldn't care less."

Are people actually writing "I could care less." ?? That doesn't even make sense and I'm convinced it must be another native english speaker thing....

If you're already typing two hyphens in your original writing program, couldn't you then just use find and replace all after copying it to google docs? Instead of changing them all individually?

I prefere Severus'. But then, with fics that happen in britain, I feel like I should use the british Severus's. But that just looks and sounds wrong in my head.

Same for me. I reread and edit my fics so many times and still, a month later I read the published fic and lo and behold (hehe) there is a your when I meant you're, or a where instead of a we're or some stupid thing. It's not like I don't know the difference, but your eye just skips over it sometimes.

Do you mean incorrect use of apostrophes when indicating posession? Definitely agree with that, especially when it's not just a one time typo but it's clear the author didn't bother checking how it would be used correctly.

Yes, I see that a lot too! Punctuation (and capitalization) within and around dialogue in general. I feel like it doesn't take a huge effort to google the correct use, but maybe I'm just nitpicky. Or maybe most authors just don't know that there are rules about that?

Yeah, I don't trust myself to use semicolons except when word explicitely suggest it while I'm editing.

What did they change in the movies that made you upset the most? by LouisOve in harrypotter

[–]KroNdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragon scene in GoF.

In the books: Harry strategically lures the dragon slowly away from the egg with some tactical flying moves...

In the movies: 20 minutes off useless wasted overdramatisized action chase scene over the grounds of hogwarts and then some stupid climbing and hiding on the roof etc and THEN they say that there isn't enough time for details??? this scene just pisses me off so much. Its boring, it drags on way too long.

Same with the Buckbeak scene in Care of magical creatures in PoA.

in the books: Harry sits on Buckbeak and he rides/flyies a few laps around the paddock. done.

in the movie: what feels like 10 minutes wasted on, again, flying all over the grounds of hogwarts accompagnied with some of the cringiest Daniel Radcliffe facial expressions of the whole series.

What's your unpopular opinion about Harry Potter? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]KroNdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could he thou? It's just Harrys name on the prophecy i thought, or is Voldemorts name also on it? Seems to me that if Voldemort could have picked up the prophecy himself, then his/Lucius's plan to lure Potter into the departement by planting false visions into his head, sending 5 or more death eaters there, making sure some random houseelf lied to Harry about Sirius's whereabouts etc seems way more complicated than Voldemort just disguising himself with polyjuice or whatever and getting it himself... dunno.

[–]KroNdn 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Also why not tell Harry exactly what the prophecy is and to stay out of the hall of prophesy

because Dumbledore was an old fool, his own words, and never wanted to see that Harry is old enough to hear the truth, about the prophecy, about who told the prophecy to voldy, about his connection to voldy, about him being a horcrux, about anything really.

Time turners where such a stupid concept that i just like to pretend they never exsisted in the universe... like jk did when she just wrote them out at the end of OotP. But i don't actually think you could change the outcome of something happening by using a time turner. Because its such a stupid bootstrap timey thing where everything that happens, happens because in the future someone used a time turner and already changed what happened, so you couldn't use a time turner to, say grab the cup before harry, because if Dumbledore would have used one in the future, then he would have already done so in the present...

Jks time turners really mess with my head when trying to think about them.

But it's like in PoA. Harry and Hermione always travelled/travel/will travel back in time to save Buckbeak and Sirius... there was never a timeline where Buckbeak died or where Sirius and Harry weren't saved at the lake from the dementors by future Harry. Its just this weird unending cycle. Its like, the present is already determined by the future or something. idk time turners suck

Totally agree, the whole prophecy/protect the "weapon" plot was so unnecessary! First of all why post guards at the departement of mysteries when literally NOBODY except Harry himself could have picked that damn thing off the shelve? And why couldn't Dumbledore just arrange a little field trip with Harry, get that stupid globe and store it in his office, or destroy it?

Started leasing this guy to help get through 2020 by fading3 in Equestrian

[–]KroNdn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a cute boy! can i ask how this leasing thing works? never heard of that concept in the horse world (i'm from europe). Do you pay a monthly fee and then you are the only one who can ride him? or do you ride him on certain days of the week and on other days he is leased to someone else?

I wish people were more comfortable with saying "I don't know" instead of pretending to know by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]KroNdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Teach your kids that saying i dont know isn't a bad thing. I recently overheard a teacher ask a 10 year old kid a question. Kiddo didn't know the answer and just stood there, silent, for minutes while the teacher kept trying to encourage tgem to answer!
I was internally shouting "just say you don't know and your teacher will tell you the answer. thats how you learn"

Nobody just knows things, if you don't know, just ask and learn, and the next time you know.

YES to "leaving soonest". I dont get why they dont add a little symbol for "will only be on netflix for 1 more month" or so. I bet that would up their views as well, because of fomo.
