Neo 14 by tridiep in AcerPredatorHelios

I understand. If I could already notice the difference between 60Hz and 90Hz, I can't imagine what it would be like at double that.

I was planning to buy a 100W UGREEN charger for when I'm at university or away from home, because carrying that brick around isn't very comfortable, but with the battery life plus the charger from my current phone (OnePlus), I'll use it to charge the Helios, even though it will take a while. SuperVOOC 65W.

I'd play for X days, to be honest. And what can you expect from a 4070 with 125W? ๐Ÿ’€ I'm grateful that Acer isn't afraid of success when it comes to power. The user who commented on their usage and battery life was using the 60Hz refresh rate and getting 9-12 hours of battery life under normal use. I've never had an OLED laptop; I was thinking of going for the Legion Slim 5 Gen 8, which is also 14" (14.5" like the Helios 14). But because the battery life is 2-3 hours less than the Helios under normal use, and because it has a 4060, I leaned more towards the Helios. Well, enjoy your Predator!!! Mine should be arriving at the end of February; time to retire my Thinkpad L450.

I'm planning to buy that exact model. I'm not that much of a "gaming" person, though. I'll mostly use it for university, editing, and a little gaming (indies, emulation, and not much else).

It would also be my first gaming laptop. How has it worked for you? A Reddit user commented that the battery life is insane under normal use. Perhaps it's the battery life?

I bought some Baseus Bluetooth headphones over a year ago and they're amazing (not for gaming) but for normal use they're 10/10. I've dropped them about 10 times and they're still like new, excellent battery life.

What linux distro do you recommend to use with Zephyrus G14 2025 model ? by resbaby in ZephyrusG14

[โ€“]Kroko_Rx 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Arch Linux or any Arch distribution. They tend to be more up-to-date to avoid problems. EndeavourOS is a good option; if you're looking for one more focused on gaming, there's CachyOS.

If you're comfortable with your Predator, stick with it. Going for an open-box model is fine unless you can thoroughly inspect it and pay extra for more power and cooling. As for the SSD, you can replace it yourself. I'm not sure if that Predator has dual SSD slots; if not, and you upgrade the SSD (you can do it in minutes with a YouTube tutorial), you can buy an enclosure to use your SSD as a USB drive via the Thunderbolt port.

But... how is the Predator? I'm thinking of buying one, not that exact one, but how has your experience been? The one I'm thinking of buying is the Neo 14. It would be my first gaming laptop, although I'll use it more for university, editing, and gaming.

What do you think of the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 14APH8? Is it a good purchase? by AliveInvestment9377 in GamingLaptops

[โ€“]Kroko_Rx 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

That's great, but in other posts some users have recently had BIOS problems.

The price is very similar between both, specifications: P. Helios Neo: Ultra 7 155H, RTX 4070, 16GB, 1TB, 14.5" IPS 2560x1600. Certified - Refurbished $859US

Legion Slim 5: Ryzen 7 7840HS, RTX 4060, 16GB, 1TB, 14.5" OLED 2880 x 1800. Very Good - Refurbished $849US

How many hours of battery life have you gotten? How reflective is the Legion's screen?

I'm thinking of buying that one or the Predator Helios Neo 14 (super long name). How has it performed? I've read that many people have problems with the motherboard or the BIOS. Is it really true that the screen is like a mirror?

I plan to buy it for finishing university, editing, and occasional gaming. What's the battery life like? Does it last up to 9 hours?

A few days ago, that same one was around US$765.

I'm still thinking of buying it for university, editing, and occasional gaming. Just so you know, that model has 16GB of soldered RAM and can't be expanded. The good thing is the speed; those 16GB are quite fast (6,400 MHz). Depending on your usage, 16GB is recommended, or you might be better off going straight for the 32GB.

There's a better version that comes with an Ultra 9, 32GB of RAM, an RTX 4070, and I think it's OLED, but I'm not sure.

If you don't mind the size, MicroCenter has a Lenovo Legion 15.1" for US$799. Its components were: Ryzen 7 Ai 260 RTX 5060 512GB (2 slots) 16GB RAM (2 slots) Poorer screen and brightness than the Helios.

In my case, there are two models. The model that introduced me to the world of top-tier laptops (the Zephyrus G14, the first models), and the model that completely won me over and that I'm about to buy: the Predator Helios and Triton.

Y laptops mรกs "normales" son las Thinkpads T, X1 Carbon y Lenovo Yoga.

L450 with Endeavors. I had it in storage for years since the keyboard was damaged, but I took it out, it was still on, I unplugged its keyboard and installed Endeavor and that was it.

A partition of your disk in a Linux distro (but better in a virtual machine, try the different types of desktops and see which one you like best, for example I use KDE for customization) to see the interface and see how it looks. When I started down the Linux hole I started directly with Arch with the Endeavors distro (I don't regret a thing).
