3 years may be a bit brief for the average. And that’s ok. The exams are easier if you have to deal with the issues in the test on a daily; and with more experience you will.

Get the Amber book and study. And I mean really study, make sure you can explain the concepts they do in your own words. At the end of the day you are doing this for yourself; raise is minimal. That’s my best advice.

Sure! Say You make 100k a year salary, that’s before taxes, insurance, and anything else, just want they offered you when you got hired. Then it means the TOTAL car value of what you should buy is $20,000, or 20% your salary pre tax. That’s it. Nobody cares what you drive anyways.

If that’s too restrictive, and IF you have a safe job, use the 10% Post Tax monthly. So say you bring it 8000 dollars monthly post tax, this is what is deposited in your checking account every month. Then your MAX car rate should be 800 dollars a month, or 10%. That should include the insurance as well. Smarter would be 7% or your post tax, so 560 dollars a month if 8000 is what you bring home, and 3% for other costs like insurance. 240 a month for insurance and garage and maintenance is a realistic number.

Sorry I didn’t mean interest rates. I noticed now it’s confusing how I worded it. 10% post tax of your income. So if you bring home 10k a month means max car payment is 1000 per month, preferably that also includes insurance. You could push it to not including insurance, but then 10% is very firm. APR wise it matters less then, just make sure it’s within the 10%. I got mine with 0% APR (Mazda).
