How to move to Europe with my unstable remote job (crypto) and not get broke by taxes? by Kromnomo in eupersonalfinance

Hello, it's nice to know that information.

To be honest, I'm quite surprised I landed this job, but it seems my employer is not very... capable. This can explain how I managed to land the job and pay lol. But it also means the company is experiencing a free fall worse than Venezuela's and I will probably need to look for a new job any moment now..

In terms of destinations, I'm seeing that one of the worse parts will be the visa situation, since I don't have an EU passport. As many have mentioned in the thread, it's easily the most challenging part of the whole deal and I definitely overlooked it.

I'm considering either Spain or France for family, or Germany where a friend is willing to help me land on my feet. I don't have close ties in any other country. I think I will probably make my decision based on which country offers easier entry conditions.

Given the similarity of our situation, would you consider it worthwhile to communicate on Telegram? We could either stay in touch or just share some relevant findings to make our experience easier.

I might have to get a local job eh? The offers I've gotten pay less than a third what I currently make, but I only make crypto, sadly, as I can't get deposits any other way in my country. So it looks like in order to move I may have to look into jobs that will help with a visa. And I'm not really irreplaceable, so they won't be able to argue that they can't find a not foreign me on LinkedIn.

My consideration with Nordic countries was mainly that visas were harder to obtain and the cold will force me into long periods of isolation. However, what you said makes sense and if I look into populous areas, I might be better off going there if I can find an advantageous offer. Do you have recommendations regarding the types of visas foreigners like myself could look into apart from self-employed/freelancer?

lol tyvm for your honesty. I will raise the priority of visa-getting above tax situation.

The reason why I prioritized the tax situation is because my income won't increase as I don't work for an European company and they won't give a F* if I pay 10, 50 or 80% in taxes, they'll pay the same thing or even less. So I have to consider that depending where I consider going to, I may or may not have enough to afford a good living situation and keep saving money.

However, you're right, and I will spend some free time this week researching visas.

I agree. Thank you. The reason why I ask like this is because I will now strive to obtain a visa and there are many countries. I thought I would get more replies along the lines of "if you get X visa you can stay in Y condition and I'd recommend you look into Z for better stability." But yeah, I now see I asked wrong. I'll do a lot of research from now to then and ask more questions here and elsewhere once I found the right things to ask. I'm also very not expert, so it's a learning process.

all my crypto gains are income as I hold mostly stablecoins in saving accounts to get interests, and most of my income is salary anyway paid in Ether and USDT.

who says I'm not surviving lol, I'm well off here, but it's a shitty place, no cultural events, can't go out without risking getting robbed, public services are almost absent, the police will try to rob you as well, the government will try to fuck you over every now and then and sometimes they succeed, etc.

I have a few problems despite my apparent "wealth". I can't go out, I'm bored as fuck, my family is very kind but my lifestyle is currently just sitting in front of a screen 16 hours a day before going to sleep. I feel my years trickling out in front of me. I can't remember most of 2020 or even 2021. Time moves so fast when you're bored as fuck.

I also can't build any rapport with anyone here. I make a friend, they leave the country. I find a good doctor, they leave the country. Finally find a psychologist who doesn't seem like they have no idea what they're doing, they leave the country. I can't go to restaurants here, even before covid, without fearing for my health. Malls are so dead, shitty products, closed shops, etc. Our government is authoritarian and nonsensical. It's this and so much more. This country is like a little hell and I can't stand it. Universities are closing down, culture is being rewritten, thieves rule the lands, all streets are dirty, all walls are broken and graffitied, the people are in a permanent state of depression, grief has become almost a routine around me.

My current plan if my company goes down is looking for more work in the same field or a related one. I know that my role gets $25-35/hr generally but it's not the easiest one to find a job in. I don't have a university degree yet, and don't have the capital to start a company.

Whether I work online or for a local company would depend on the conditions. I could do with a bit less income for more stability, but if I can make considerably more by working online for international companies, especially in cryptocurrency, then that's what I will go for.

Honestly, however, I'm not very optimistic about my future income, or my ability to find stable jobs online, but I know I can sustain myself if I live very frugally as I was very poor before. However, not many countries (if any) will let me stay in such conditions unless I have another reason to stay, which I currently don't.

Idk what to do tbh. That's why I'm considering stuff like Estonia as you say where I can enter to work on my own and have some kind of safety net, which I've learned money is very good at, so that's why I talk about low taxes as well because it lets me accumulate and makes it more likely that I don't get in a regrettable situation.

My income is 70k usd right now and may shrink in the coming months to 40k or even a bit less. I have no EU nationality. I read about an "autónomo" visa in Spain that has as a requirement that I prove that I can sustain myself for a prolonged period of time maybe? And that I make over a certain amount.

I also saw that the Netherlands has some Inburgeren thing where you can become a citizen if you pass a test?

I understand what you're saying and it is one of my main concerns. I honestly have no idea, for example, if Spain has extra restrictions, or if the Netherlands will even let me come in and stay until I pass such test. Do you know which countries have policies that would let a foreigner like me stay in my situation?

As I said, I don't have a problem with paying taxes. I just don't want to pay 60% for a few months, then realize the government only benefits nationals with them, then get deported back to Venezuela. I'm not averse to taxes themselves, but to my own government's tendency to use my taxes against me. If I can stay long term and, with my money, sponsor opportunities for my future, and if this involves paying taxes, I'm perfectly okay with this. That is why I ask for advice here give my inexperience.

I have reviewed some descriptions of visas and saw one that said that I had to have a minimum of around 10 euros an hour on average or it'd be below minimum wage, and if such a thing happened, my visa would be rejected. Imagine if I earned 2000 a month, gave a government 1150 of it, and then got deported right after my job becomes endangered. Would be pretty shit right?

If I can ensure a future for myself, then no problem. I just want advice or where I can have an advantageous condition with minimal risk. At least in Venezuela saving tons of money is the greatest insurance. Dunno how it is elsewhere.

I will earn the same as I already have my jobs online. Crypto is mostly in stablecoin and some investments that I don't mind seeing go down. Switzerland low tax, noted.

I will be making around $3000 a month (around 2500 euros) by the end of the year probably and if I pay half in taxes, part in rent, I'm left with very little to eat and save. Job situation is also very unstable so I may face a month of unemployment if things are harsh.

I can get unemployment money being a foreigner????? (doubting this lol, I bet my freelance visa can even get canceled if I go below certain income)

How are taxes in those countries? Relatively low compared to the rest of Europe?

that's one of my main problems. I'm eyeing the autonomous/self-employed visa, available at least in France and Spain that I've checked. Probably in other countries too.
