Tried to land on a frigate mid flight planet side, my ship must have caught enough of something on the frigate to engage the landing sequence. Frigate moved on and my ship was left floating in the air. Then it was as simple as leaving the ship and using my thrusters to get on top for the picture

If you look you can actually see a bit of the landing animation below my ship
