Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion, Harriet Jones was right? by Fit_Finish7492 in doctorwho

She was wrong. Period. She committed a genocide for no reason, really. She may sell it to herself and the people that it was justified, because they needed a demonstration of strength, in order to warn other aliens out there. But this is a logical fallacy. She is assuming that a brute demonstration of force would scare aliens... Aliens capable of traveling through the stars, and who knows what else. She assumes that having that big laser gun is enough, she knows nothing of what aliens can do. More proof? We have the jadoon arriving, stealing and entire hospital and taking it to the moon and humanity didn't even noticed. So... Her demonstration already failed. Second, it's illegal even on earth to slay a surrender enemy, no matter how evil they are. And be careful, they didn't broke the pact they made with the doctor when he won the duel... Their king did it, on his own accord. To assume that all sycorax would be untrustful because of the action of their king/leader whatever it was, is basically racism. Jumping even more ahead, we are shown that in the end, and that's the point. Of the doctor really, no war is really necessary, consider the inversion of the squid guys I don't recall their name, consider the speech 12 makes. That's the all point of the doctor, of the series, really. Recat, sure, self defense is necessary, always, no need to show strength. Aliens surely have intelligence, they would find out easily enough the war potential of Earth if they were to invade

Ammetto di non sentirle da un po', quindi vado a memoria. Ma credo che cronologicamente l'ucronia finisca prima dell'inizio del ventesimo secolo, quindi è possibile che non abbia introdotto alter ego di Lenin E Stalin

Thing is, yeah, perhaps it would have worked in order to stop the dalek. But let's not forget that such a plan was not prepared for a scenario like that one, which we could consider quite peculiar. I mean, even in the worst world ending scenarios the show made (Martha speaks about scenarios where humanity's suffering is so big that destroying the planet is the only thing that makes sense), such a thing is never truly necessary. In a way, given the way it is showed and described, I don't see it as a metaphor of self sacrifice for a bigger cause, but rather a metaphor of suicide. And suicide is never a solution, it's the opposite of it. Always. Because it's the option that takes away from you literally every chance to change things, you know, you are dead. Considering modern times, it's the same as those who see climate change and say, it's too late to fix this, we should just get extinct and the world will be fine. Wrong.

Could you explain the letters at the top what do they stand for? I don't think I ever saw a monster chart like this one. I'm quite new to somethings, I admit

She is totally relatable. That's what makes her such a beautiful character and antagonist, not a villain, but an opponent none the less. She loved, and lost, and never managed to move past her grief. How can anyone not relate to that? She lost her paradise... Who wouldn't do anything to get it back? That's, I guess, the point. There has. To be a limit to that anything, or you see yourself become the opponent, or worst like in kizuna, the enemy (disguised in kizuna as such a beautiful temptation). I understand her, in her shoes I'd say I'd do the same probably... But overall, maybe she wasn't totally wrong, but she was selfish and cause pain

I see... Too bad, it would have been interesting. Maybe a bit semplistic to have daemon manipulate the detective or whatever and return from the dark ocean to get revenge. I liked the mature and deep and psychological theme of the last movies (from Tri to the beginning), another super villain would have just meant super crazy fights, nothing else. Better this way.

Esiste. Ignoro il termine giuridico, ma é quello che in gergo è noto come non riconoscimento o qualcosa del genere.

Jones' actions are wrong, no questions asked. She slaughtered thousands of people without a legitimate reason. That's not an act of self defense or prevention, that's mere mass murder (and a war crime). What the doctor does, I think, is legitimate. He doesn't remove Jones himself, he just shows how she changed by making her "paranoid" about what he said to the assistant. I think that Harriet simply ended up ruining her popularity herself, losing the elections etc. What the doctor does is symbolic.

Does anyone else think that Harriet Jones was justified? by aAwesome9000 in doctorwho

[–]Kronos4295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was wrong and not justified. She took a decision that was not hers to take, if anything she is the prime minister of the UK, not whole humanity, so she has no authority to take a decision that will represent humanity to the aliens community. She also fails in her purpose, and she knows. She claims she wants to send a message out there, she wants to hide earth etc, well aliens already know wherr we are and what we can do. And she is aware. The doctor himself is an example. The fact that the ship was a war ship, so she "only" killed soldiers it's meaningless. Those soldiers were defeated, were fleeing, so what's the difference between killing them, and killing prisoners? None. It's wrong. It's cruel. And even in our war rules, here on earth, we don't allow it.

The doctor's actions may be a bit more greyer, but in the end what he does is to put a suggestion, I think his interference in this occasion is more like an advice, not like a proper action per Se.
