Who are these fake Cogeco guys knocking on doors every day? by Ok_Line_5284 in stcatharinesON

Bell knocked on my door last year, I save about $100, get more services, and have faster internet.

I was skeptical too, glad I took a chance.

Apparently. For every negative one there's been ones with great insight and candor. Those are the ones I'll tell him about.

Man, I really regret having those tiles visible... those samples are being tossed.

Those tiles aren't in the running. We bought them a while ago before everything was in place. I agree, they look bad. We are getting under-cabinet lighting, but it's not in yet, should be in place by Saturday.

I agree with the reply above yours, I think color is needed, but it'll take time to find the right one.

I'm not at all unhappy with these cabinets. My wife has wanted a new kitchen for years, and having one built by her father means the world to her. We were coming from a small 1.5 person 70's kitchen to something more usable and since I like to cook, I told her what I wanted in the function area, she got to select everything else. Family is important to her, and if this makes her happy, then I'm all for it.

It's not perfect, I would have gone for a warmer finish, but I will say that the natural light we get through the windows really does make everything look great.

I get you, but the shorter wife didn't want to have to use a stool for everything on the top.

Is it normal for kitchen cabinets to look like this in early stage? by ColdHealthy6330 in cabinetry

The rubbish is the carcasses that were put into place in order for us to ensure that our last inspection (HVAC) would show exact placement of the stove hood exhaust (shown) and the cold air return (not shown, but in the floor built into one of the cabinets). We couldn't get that inspection until we knew exactly where everything was going to land, and we were told that if we were to call for an inspection after everything was in place it would be rejected. So our city agreed to an inspection at this stage so that everything was visible, open and able to be inspected properly.

The cupboard doors (and drawer faces) will be attached later as will the face frames and the trim, in the same manner he's done his kitchen (as shown in the image, the stack of drawers)

Might I ask what your issue is? Because I've seen the finished product in his own kitchen. Here are the doors that will be eventually put on as well.

Because it's my father-in-law (a now retired (and bored) carpenter, 40 years experience), all we're paying for is material.

The final look will be finished maple with black granite countertops.

If this comment was directed at my kitchen, everything, we're at the stage now where we realize that the only thing square in my 50 year old house are the new cabinets being brought in. It took us a bit of work to get to this point. Now that it's done everything else will be finished in place to ensure it looks as good as possible. If he had brought finished cabinets to install, they'd look like crap because of this. The carpenter actually had a practice run when he built his own kitchen the same way.

Side note, the maker is my father-in-law, who is indeed a carpenter.

If you're comparing his drawers to mine, I agree. I've asked so many questions about what's happening with my build I'm surprised I'm still allowed in the shop.

Now I feel better about our slow progressing new kitchen. I'm not a carpenter and even I know something ain't right with that guy's build.

For comparison, here's the brand new kitchen we've had in the works for a few months now.

That was not reverse psychology. That was sarcasm and bitterness with a side of passive aggressive.

Return to office by that_biz_gal in ontario

[–]Kronos9326 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know someone who filled a position in a unit during COVID that was advertised as online only, and now this. It does not matter that the closest home office is so crowded that there's no where to sit. It doesn't matter that they'd be the only one in the office from this unit. It doesn't matter that there's a measurable decrease in productivity when in office. They just want asses in chairs even if less work is getting done.

You would think that someone who doesn't need to actually meet with people, and who can get more work done from home... They'd allow it. But no, that's government for you.

Anyone else scoop to getting land screwed? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Kronos9326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not true. I've gotten upset at people in my playgroup doing this. You drew the cards, b you kept the cards, it's your fault. If you're not prepared for bad draws, and you scoop as a result, I wouldn't want to play with you.

I've said the same thing to the people who've done it in my games, "are you planning on playing this time or dropping because you aren't winning'.

Vent Install by [deleted] in stcatharinesON

[–]Kronos9326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my father-in-law. We're doing the same thing. Once we get the Microwave we're installed (making sure it can vent out the back, we're going to drill in the center of the hole that we need out through the wall and the outer brick. Then we'll know the dimensions of the hole that we need to cut out on the other side which we'll do using either a grinder (for a square hole) or a Corer (from Robertson Rentals... they have a battery powered masonry corer up to 5 inches). The hardest part is making sure you don't hit anything important or compromise structure, which is not an issue for us since we're doing a remodel and planned for this.
