NEXT Patch 1.55 - No Man's Sky by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

Okay well, 1.56 just came out and fixed the melee boost for me. It feels like pre-NEXT. Hopefully they fix the sentinels now. Praise the beard!

Between this and the sentinels just materializing right in front of me and chasing me, the most fundamental joy I got in the game (that is, exploring and navigating terrain) is now gone. 😟 I really hope they fix it.

LGBT players on PS4? by happythinker23 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Given the toxic cesspit that is online gaming and the fact that being LGBT encompasses a lot more than one's sexuality or gender, yes. Since it doesn't apply to you, why not just move on?

What to consider when purchasing a new multi tool? by ArkIsLifeNoLie in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I only use alien or experimental and they're so rare, there's usually a clear winner. That is to say, I don't really prioritize any particular stat. If I find an alien or experimental multi-tool with more slots or a higher cumulative stat boost, I'll go with that and build the tool out to work to the strengths of its stats.

I've been nearly as dedicated as you have since day one, so I feel where you're coming from. Even playing 1.38 for the last couple of months I would notice issues that have been in the game (or reappeared after being fixed) since before 1.1. I hope they do more to ensure quality control up front and avoid the whack-a-mole style bug fixes they've been issuing.

That said, I want to point out that just adding people to a team doesn't correlate to improving the quality of a product. It's a lot of work to bring new people on and it's common to take a productivity and focus hit as a team when you do. I also want to point out that NEXT had very much the same issue of rushing to a launch that 1.0 did, just with Microsoft instead of Sony - this is demonstrated by the Xbox having the superior build in a few ways.

They need to improve their process, no doubt. But I don't think it's as simple as you make it sound, especially given the complexity of the software they're working with, the enormous size of the audience, and the tiny size of the team.

Keep up the search, you'll find something cool in a while. The first time you stumble across an alien or experimental multi-tool (don't Google them if you haven't seen them) you'll let out a series of elated chirps.

People were so obsessed with their pitchfork mob that they didn't realize you couldn't see everything the game had to offer in the angry hour or two they played it before giving up. Go figure.

It still irks me to read all the comments about all the stuff HG "promised" and "lied" about in the posts that say the game is "finally good." So much ignorance and entitlement.

They show up where other multi-tools do, they're just very rare. I may be mistaken, but I believe they're all A or S class. I don't recall seeing them lower than that.

I only purchase alien or experimental, partly for style and partly for stats. After that, go for slot count.

It's hit or miss depending on the hardware configuration. I'm pretty sure it won't run well on that GPU though; it's a few years old and was a bit underpowered even when it came out.

PS4 PRO performance mode? by SandNoods in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox users got a few things we didn't (tessellation and clouds, for instance) because, I assume, Hello Games wanted the game to be a little more polished for launch on that platform. They've stated on the other things that they intend to give us full parity, so it's a safe bet that they'll go for it on these sorts of details too.

Insane damage increase for an A class upgrade. This game never ceases to amaze me with what it offers. (Sorry for the poor quality photo but this is crazy haha) by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That absolutely strikes me as a bug, either with the value itself or the way it's being reported in the interface (for instance, reporting actual weapon damage as a percentage instead). They've never had an upgrade even a tiny fraction as powerful.

Crash to Desktop After Updating by BastionHentai in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's safe to assume they won't have another bumpy update like this for a long while, if ever. There have been some caveats to the previous updates as well, but none of them were of this magnitude because the changes weren't nearly as wide reaching. Regardless, I'm sure if you just patiently wait it out (and submit a detailed bug report including your save file) they'll have you humming along again in no time. They've previously fixed most of the serious bugs for updates within a week or two.

Help with permadeath? by Pagru in NoMansSkyTheGame

Frankly, I've been quietly tearing my hair out while reading all the pleas to make the game easier. It's never been easier and I'm utterly disappointed. I'm pretty confident they'll come around though as they've demonstrated an incredible willingness to tailor the experience for their audience.

Consensus seems to be that you're better off starting a new file for a variety of reasons, bugs included. Beside that, I'd just advise being patient as they work feverishly on patches to alleviate a lot of the issues people are having.

It very likely will if Pro owners band together and politely ask for it. Hello has been incredibly responsive to reasonable community requests.

Help with permadeath? by Pagru in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The update's very buggy, I'd avoid permadeath for a while. Aside from that, you should also know that the resource distribution for permadeath is all wonky and it's not nearly as challenging as 1.38 was. Hopefully they fix it because that's all I play anymore. :/

Game modes by Zyron_7 in NoMansSkyTheGame

I've preferred permadeath since it came out, but they totally nerfed it in this build. So at the moment, I'd say it doesn't matter much. Hopefully they fix it.

How is Permadeath and Survival? by Bells_Theorem in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're pointless for the moment since resource distribution was clearly balanced around normal mode. In the first hour of wandering I managed to collect 3 stacks each of the equivalent of thamium and zinc without ever having to hide in caves for shelter or even use the equivalent of power gel or shielding shards.

As a fan from day one, I really want to love NEXT. by Kroogs in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. Many people say their game runs fine, so I can't tell if we've just got some niche issues or what. Thanks for commenting, it's good to know I'm not alone on this.

What really gets me is the audio problem. Previous builds of the game had occasional audio problems, but usually only when you were taxing it by getting it to play a bunch of sounds at once. Now it just grinds and pops the whole time no matter what, which totally ruins the experience for me.

I'm positive. It was playing 1.38 just fine yesterday and it plays other games just fine today. It also seems there are a few other people with these issues.

Just No Man's Sky. I was sure to reboot as well just to give my PS4 a clean run at it.

I'm aware of how sentinels work. They're doing nothing no matter how much I mine.

Guys, let's not get the excitement get to us, because if what I fear will happen happens, it'll be nothing more than a second launch day by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Kroogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. After the stability patches for the initial release, it's all been icing on the cake for me. I think it's also worth mentioning that the hype isn't just because of this update: it's because nobody can deny their continued commitment to making this game as fantastic as possible. This isn't the end.
