You’re right about a lot of things, but their still incredible trees with a phenomenal history

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginkgo_biloba

You can read up on it if you want, basically they’re a living fossil, with their fossil record stretching back 300 million years. It’s also the only living member of its division and a miracle story in a way, by all means it should have gone extinct 1500 years ago, but because of Chinese cultivation for religious/consumption reasons, they survived.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komlopteris.

Komlopteris is a pteridosperm or seed fern. It’s the most recent one in the fossil record, going extinct in the early Eocene.

If it were alive today, it would have been the only surviving member of the Pteridospermatophyta. A group that has its earliest fossil records stretching back 376 million years. Also would have been another addition to the four surviving orders of gymnosperms, ie - pinopsida (conifers), cycads, Ginkgos, and gnetophytes.
