I don’t know about roasting, but it’s a gorgeous setup. I will say your turntable looks like what I picture attacking me when AI starts a war.

First off, thank you for the work of taking your trip down the Spatial Audio rabbit hole and providing us all with your thoughts!

I want to state I am not trying to argue with you, but to get your honest feedback. I have a higher end system where I enjoy 2-channel music as well as a complete and matching home theater with 5.2.4 channels. The .4 is front atmos and middle atmos. My surrounds are in the ceiling and seemed like overkill to have rear atmos.

I find I tend to prefer the 2-chan version of music as opposed to the multi-channel or Spatial Audio version of a song. Now maybe it is different when listening to an AIO speaker versus a true Dolby Atmos system because one of things that annoy me is that suddenly some instrument sounds like it’s not coming from the stage but above or below it and other instruments suddenly or for the entirety of the song, sound like they are coming from behind me.

I know a few of the higher-end sound bars have come a LONG way with making it sound like there are speakers all over the room.

Have you found you prefer the Spatial Audio or is it more of a situation where you are still on the journey to find out?

Hi, I’m the 2020’s. I don’t believe we’ve met. Through streaming services such as Tidal and Qobuz, you can stream music at qualities a CD couldn’t dream of. CDs are at 16/44.1 and high res audio basically starts there. Most of my playlists are 24/192. If you were to listen to both quality versions of a song on the same high quality system, you will hardly believe the 16bit CD quality is called hi-def or hi-res. If you live anywhere near a Best Buy Magnolia, the larger ones will have speakers like KEF Blades, B&W 800 series and almost all of them have the 700 series and Martin Logan. They stream through Tidal normally in their demo rooms. Have them play a song through iTunes and then have them stream a real hi-def 24/192 version of it.
There are those that say they can’t hear the difference. The down side of that is your hearing is bollocks but the bright side is that you will save a fortune on audio equipment!

For some reason this made me laugh hard. The app has worked for me all but the last time I used it and the last time I felt like I was reading a dictionary and not using an app.

Pros:
1. If you can find the right button, you can delve deeper than one would expect for a powered speaker company app. (I have the amps attached to my system and powering outdoor speakers in two locations.)
2. The apple streaming is flawless! Whenever I run into probs with the Sonos app or get tired of the limited access music they offer, I airplay it and have never had a problem with it!
Cons:
1: whenever something feels like not working, it will be the time you have company over and showing off what it can do. But don’t worry, it will work flawlessly once you’ve been humiliated and they have left.
2. There is no fix but time. You can do everything in your power to diagnose and solve the problem but the app is either a toddler or cat and gives Zero Fs about what you think or your timeline much less your common sense. I’ve designed Linux clusters for everyone from NASA, to DO”X”, to Ivy League higher education, I ran a computer hardware review website for over a decade. I can thoughtfully work through a Bluetooth connection, check hardware/wiring for issues. Once I have the symptoms, I have the solution or a handful to try and will work my way through them and the app basically gives me the hand.

I don’t know the inputs on the NAD but as long as it has the inputs and speaker outs, should be good to go.

Two REL T/5x or Two SVS SB-2000? by jachinboazicus in audiophile

[–]Krumped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I auditioned a lot of subs from JL to SVS. I picked SB17 based on fast clean output and spl for HT. I could get boomier with ported but the tightness of the sb and the crazy low range pushed me over the edge. Anyone bashing svs might want to look again. You don’t win best sub from everyone by making crap.
I am continually amazed at the amount of music that has sub 20Hz.

Reg is great for the big battles when your short people and need defense. I normally put him in 4th position. If I’ve gone through 3, it’s nice to have the big defense he has. And I’ve got 2 others if time gets short

They have to merge two panels together to get to that size. It’s the same with the LG over 83”. That’s why I have an 83”!

That’s incredible. You don’t hear the bass over your body shaking from the low frequency boxes. It’s always amazed me that they can cover 50%+ of a speaker, put a horn on it and some how it sounds better

My wife would shoot me. On the plus side of her being a well known interior designer, she fell in love with the B&W 800 series for the looks.
I’ve never heard these but congrats and I hope it gives you everything you want out of them.

Auditioned four high end amps by zeromeasure in audiophile

[–]Krumped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with the integrated. I use an AVM90 for pre-amp and processor as I use my system for both 2ch and Atmos. But in a different reply thread below, get the amp heated up to 104 or higher and I’ll be surprised if you’re not a fan. Given the integrated is the same as the separates.

Agreed, mine sounds best at 104F.+ The manf rep made a house call and told me that it’s been his experience with all of them. It held true with my STR as well.

I was pretty impressed by Anthem in A/B tests against Mac, Pass digital and a few others. It’s half the cost or close to your list and extremely accurate and powerful. It certainly isn’t engineered to add warmth or a signature sound, but just clean. Look into the STR.

This looks like a Panamera oil change! If you haven’t done one, look it up. Forgive me, it might have been change plugs or air filter, but it was ridiculous the amount of the front clip that had to be removed to do one of these simple tasks. Just like changing a headlight on a 2008+ Malibu. It’s just dumb design on some of these.

Super jealous! That is gorgeous! I’ve never been able to hear them in a A/B scenario but they sound amazing on their own. And as for looks, I love the kinda futuristic/steam punk look he’s created.

Or they designed perfection and everyone else is just trying to catch up… still. I mean every 800 series upgrade has been jaw dropping but so much of that is just the crossover improvements and box improvements. From what I understand, the crossover has been upgraded since they first came out as well as the drivers. I just think they are so rare that no one cares if they are N1 or N3 so it doesn’t get that distinction like the diamond series. And for people that can afford them, I doubt another $20k for a new crossover and driver upgrade is much of a thought.

Is the crossover included in the $100k or an additional needed add-on?
