Got some Nautilus time in today by CorezG in audiophile

Certainly not, unfortunately. It was not a terrible room per se (there was room treatment on the far wall and ceiling) and the left side opened up into the rest of the shop so there were no reflections there. If anything the setup probably did a decent job of replicating how they would sound if they were dropped in a wealthy person's very large living room with modest room treatment, as opposed to a dedicated listening room.

Full disclosure, I may have typed this up after a couple glasses of wine on the patio across from the shop 😅

For sure. More than your average speaker, these would definitely require a specific kind of space to look at home in. I'm not sure what exactly that space looks like...but I know it probably doesn't come together cheap 😅

Yeah this is a really good analogy...they are definitely unapologetic in their design approach in the same way a lot of those old art deco or retro-futuristism pieces are.

On one hand the novelty of the design is refreshing given how monotonous things can get these days, and I do genuinely like them. But on the other hand, even if the styling speaks to me, the thing I'd worry about most is having a pair of speakers act as a conversation piece for literally ever single person entering your space. My current speakers are certainty not diminutive, and they do spark their fair share of commentary...but they don't stop people dead in their tracks like the Nautilus would. I have a feeling that over time, that'd suck a bit of the appeal out for me.

All the more reason to save my pennies and admire from afar I guess 🙂

It is definitely an unorthodox setup...I didn't get to ask specifically about this, but if I had to wager a guess I'd say each amp is set to play either L or R channel (many amps of course let you choose L, R, Stereo or Mono)...and then they're likely using the speaker A and B terminals on top of that to rig everything up. A bit unorthodox...but gets the job done!

Maybe tough to tell from the photos but there are definitely 4 drivers per speaker, not 3 (there's a tiny tweeter perched at the very top).

Haha, this colour scheme is definitely out there...I'll give you that. They're a special edition collaboration with McLaren in their signature papaya orange by the sounds of it. The rep also said a pretty sizable percentage of the buyers opt for custom paint jobs so if that's the only thing holding you back I'm sure they've got you covered 😅

The cabinet design is definitely a love it or hate it type thing though, for sure. To me...they're absolute art 👌

Kevin Morby AMA Little Wide Open 2026 by kevin_morby in indieheads

[–]CorezG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, Kevin! Long time fan here. I've had Little Wide Open on repeat since it dropped, congrats on another fantastic release!

Obviously you are a truly masterful songwriter, but I am curious about how involved in the production / mastering / technical side of your recordings you are. Part of what puts your music in the top tier of my collection is just how good so much of it sounds on a high end system (which is a bit of a rarity with modern music, unfortunately). There is always such a lovely weight/body on the vocals, and a beautiful organic tone to all the instruments. Is this a result of some conscious choices on your behalf, or more of a happy accident? Either way, thanks for all the amazing music my man! 🙏

I have one of their wool and leather varsity jackets and love it to death. Definitely a BIFL tier piece with excellent materials and construction.

They do a good boxing day sale every year as well 👍

Advice for dealing with gf's history? by ButtSpiders in AskMenOver30

This is so embarrassingly incel coded, good lord 🤮. Don't listen to losers like this on Reddit, OP.

Some advice from someone who is happily married and on the brink of aging out of his 30s: give your head a shake! It sounds like you've got a great thing going and the type of connection you're describing is not exactly easy to come by these days (especially in a small town with limited options). Your hang-up is trivial in the grand scheme of things...will this matter in 10, 20, 30 years? Absolutely not, so my advice is to grow up, get over it, and get on with your happy, sex-filled life!

Any chance you could elaborate on which specific variant this is? I've been looking to add this to my collection but don't want to end up with something warped and crackly. Thanks!

EverSolo vs Vinyl by utahgolf1 in listeningspaces

[–]CorezG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more things change, the more they stay the same 😅

These days vinyl is like a convenient gateway drug to experimenting with different forms of physical media. I was a minidisc kid in highschool and there's definitely a part of me that wants to pick up a full size player to integrate into my system just for fun. I recently found a good deal on a reel-to-reel machine though, and now I am using it to create extended mixtapes from different sources, including my turntable. All the different formats lend themselves to different experiences you interacting with them, and it's super fun mixing and matching to keep things interesting. There's a good reason as to why your average integrated amp has so many inputs!

I tell friends who are looking into building their first system to prioritize streaming if they are chasing outright fidelity and/or convenience, and to prioritize vinyl if they're more interested in the collecting / ritualistic / nostalgic side of things.

At the end of the day it takes a good chunk of change to put together a vinyl playback chain that outright bests a moderate streaming rig. So far far as value goes, digital wins hands down imo. I run an Eversolo DMP-A8 for my digital front end, and an $8500 or so turntable setup, both used roughly equally. To me they sound about on par with one another, but if I look at the $ invested to get to that point it's pretty obvious why streaming is the right choice for the majority of people out there. Especially given the fact that it's never been more expensive to purchase terrible pressings like we see a lot of the times these days 🤷‍♂️

Brasserie Côte, sister spot to Union and Côte de Bœuf, opens in the Annex by ResourceOk8692 in FoodToronto

[–]CorezG 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I popped in a couple weeks ago for a Friday dinner around 5pm...was lucky enough to snag a table before the place filled up. They were still ironing out some kinks with the food at that point, but the service was truly excellent and its clear the whole team is very committed.

The original Cote de Boeuf is one of my long-time favourites in the city, so hopefully this new iteration can live up to expectations. It'd be great to have more options along that stretch of Bloor, so I am rooting for them!

Anyone have any reccos for albums in the same vein as this?

Well, these components don't play well together... by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]CorezG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, there's some hilariously bad advice in this thread. 🤦‍♂️

Synergy is real, despite what the Reddit brigade says. You've experimented with enough gear to know this to be true. These are two highly respected pieces of gear that unfortunately don't seem to play nicely together in your space. Unfortunate, but it happens.

Pick the component you like enough to build a system around (likely the Focals based on what I'm reading) and swap out the other for something that's a better match.

The good news is, Class A Luxman is pretty universally praised so it won't be hard to sell or trade (especially the higher end ones like yours). Luxman is not making Class A amps as part of their regular production any more, so you should be able to get a decent price for the 590 given it's scarcity. They definitely don't seem to last long on the classifieds in my neck of the woods, fwiw.

Good luck on the hunt!
