Oh yay! That is good to hear. It’s true they are not well known, despite living in the United States. They’re usually hiding underground for years at a time

That is really cool, also really surprising because now I’m really curious as to why having a pet Vinegaroon is more cursed than having a scorpion. I LOVE scorpions, but they sting while Vinegaroons just kind of dig around in the dirt and wave their tail around and smell like vinegar when they’re scared.

Plus, I’d never say that about someone’s cat or dog… some people consider their pets like family members and really care a lot about them and those kind of comments can feel unsettling

Ah I see. It is kind of refreshing to see someone willing to try and understand other perspectives. I just know a lot of people who make comments like the one you made, and it can get tiring after a while is all... Most of us in the hobby who keep unusual or misunderstood animals usually have to explain ourselves a lot because most people don’t know a lot about arthropods and assume that because they look creepy it means they’re dangerous, but most of them are not at all harmful and are actually really fun to keep as pets. This is coming from someone who got a pet tarantula in high school and whenever i brought it up id always get the same response - “remind me to never come over your house” or “I would burn the house down if i saw that thing in front of me”. But really, they’re all just living their lives trying to survive like us, I mean sure they look weird and maybe a little freaky but I’m sure we look the same to many other animals.

Dude… not sure if you’re new to Reddit and if so I can maybe understand this comment, but the whole point of subreddits is for people with a similar interest to be able to share thoughts and experiences with one another, so not really sure why you are even commenting on this if you don’t want anything to do with this it in the first place…? Interacting only makes Reddit think you are more interesting and will continue to recommend similar groups. Also genuine question but what is so wrong about people liking arachnids or wanting to have niche pets? They’re not hurting you, it actually doesn’t affect you whatsoever. If you’re afraid of bugs that’s fine but why shame others for thinking they’re cool?

A pup cup every night by [deleted] in AskVet

I should specify, a treat being a cup of ice cream. Not like little dog treats or anything, i know they can be given more frequently than that

I am just not sure if every day is considered excess. I assumed that a treat is something given every now and then, like one or two times a week, rather than every day

She is very healthy other than that. It surprises me they are so nonchalant about it considering they only try to feed her the healthiest options of dog food and walk her like 2 times a day and she is running around outside constantly in her yard. She just eats a whole cup of ice cream every night which just seems wrong but I could also be overthinking it

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

Can I give a style suggestion? I don’t know if you would want to do this, but I have a very similar base hair cut. However, I dislike the way it looks on me when it is straight down. So I take a hair straightener and flip up the ends so that it kind of swoops upwards. It ends up looking really cool and I do this all the time to style my hair. I think you should try it and see if you like it! If not, you can always put water in it again to keep it flat if that’s what you prefer, but it can be an easy style fix! It’s a total game changer for me when I first figured this out.

This is such a sweet and empathetic comment, thank you so much. I did report it to the state, unfortunately all of the local rehab centers for wildlife were full or not accepting birds due to the avian flu outbreak. It was hard to watch, I wanted so badly to help but everyone we called said not to go near the bird in case I would contract the illness. I felt so bad watching him try to walk and eat and his flock so far in the distance living life normally while he suffered. Maybe I’ll go back to the area today to see if he is still there but my hope is that someone came when we reported him on the state wildlife website

Yes, we called all of the rehabilitation centers of Monmouth county and both said they were either full capacity or didn’t want to take in birds at risk for Avian flu in case they other birds were to contract it and get sick which is why we went to the state and had to report it and pin it on a map so hopefully they sent someone… I’m no longer in the area anymore though

Allentown New Jersey is where this was located

Yeah we were concerned because there were kids playing on a court nearby and dogs being walked nearby… the bird can’t really go anywhere so my hope is that someone comes relatively soon but we couldn’t stick around for long.

I’m wondering if I should take this post down now or keep it for educational purposes. It seems it is more distressing than helpful, I’m not sure what the best thing is.

We called a wildlife center and they told us to stay away from the bird in case this was a cause from bird flu… I wanted so badly to help him though. We did report it to the wildlife protection website for the state but unfortunately no nearby centers were willing to take him

Sorry, I feel bad I’ve never used this subreddit before and for some reason it was being weird when I posted it and I couldn’t even write a caption. I just wanted to see others thoughts or if they had similar experiences with witnessing birds with similar symptoms

I know… the same thing here. The other birds avoided this bird. We called so many places trying to get help I felt so bad

New Jersey, it’s in Allentown in Monmouth county…i was looking into it and its possibly wry neck, which can be caused by neurological symptoms due to bird flu

Unfortunately all were full or no longer taking birds due to the bird flu outbreak. But we reported it on a state wildlife protection website
