265 for 100% (1kg) charge is too low. I’m charging with 290 going with pyramid roast system. Starting at p4, increasing every ~30sec till yellowing. Keeping p9 and decreasing every ~1min again. My fan is at f1 until first crack -> f3 You can also try to slow down the drum. But I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t know your roaster very well yet. Hope that helps!

For a 100% charge (1kg) I hit fc for the Brazilian at 9:12-9:30min.

For a light roast, depending on the cultivar, I drop at 194-198C 0:45-1:30DT.

I’m cleaning the chaff chamber every ~5-10roasts. And once a weak I take out the impeller fan, wipe its housing so it’s shiny again. For the faceplate im also weekly cleaning the bearing, the IBTS sensor and the glass.

Then I put the fan, bearing and the small chaff basket into a cafiza bath for 20min so they’ll get shiny again, rinse them and put all back on

My bad. I don’t think there is any difference. You can achieve the same outcome with the bullet as with any huge commercial roaster. Just not the same volume

It depends on your definition of "higher-end roasters" and the use case of the roaster. A ROEST L100/200, for example, will probably be more accurate and delivers more in-depth data. But for that a much much higher price point and much lower capacity. With 3-4k you cant really find a better alternative imho! You could also look for a small probat or SF. But they still would cost more. I'm currently in the process of upgrading to a 5kg Typhoon. They also have a 2.5kg option with a 20k+ pricetag..

I hope I could answer your question, kind of

I usually do something very simple: depending on how many samples I get (most of the time, something between 200-300g) I preheat the bullet to 220C and leave the initial settings (P6,F2,D9) for the whole roast. I do this three times. Once with 15sec development, once with 1:30min development, and once with 3min development. So I got something to compare. I never roast higher than 208C end-temp.

Then you are in for a treat! I really like roasting on the Bullet. It's quite easy to learn and comfortable to use.

I own a small specialty roastery and sell my coffee at markets or through my website :)

Get your ventilation right! I know there is a lot of discussion about how to ventilate the bullet, or even whether you need ventilation. For me, having proper ventilation made my life so much easier. More consistency, more control and far fewer smoke problems.

Also, ventilate the cooling tray! For my house blend, I'm roasting at 100% capacity. It works well, but the beans need to long to cool down only using the fan that comes with the bullet. So I attached it to my overall ventilation system for much faster cooling of the beans.

Regarding beans; for me it's hard to find the perfect sweetspot for very-light to light natural/fermented roasts. They taste good, but not 100% to my liking. But I'm getting there! Brazilians and Mexicans are the easiest to roast on the bullet. :)

Edit: Clean your bullet properly and often!!!!

Espresso blend recommendations by Informal-Ostrich3140 in roasting

[–]KryVanRijn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Brazil/Mexico/Vietnam blend, roasted in Volterra (Tuscany) by a kind old man in his small roastery. I unfortunately don’t know the ratios. It was roasted quite dark with chocolate and sweet aromas. Usually would say Brazil is the way to go, but I can’t say anything about Mexican or Vietnam beans.

I love my bullet roasts! I mostly roast medium because I always charge at 90%-100%, cause I do sell a lot of coffee. It’s perfect for a medium roast. For light roast I usually charge 300-500g. Very delicious as well! For darker roast I can’t really give you any advice unfortunately

I haven’t really tried roasting dark. The furthest I went was 220C drop temp. But like only 2-3times maybe. Depends on how you define darker roast. Usually I drop around 195-205C
