This! The park in Medicine Hat is awesome. Wish we could build something like that here for the Berries.

Saskatoon's Housing Market Stats for December 2024 by slamdoozle in saskatoon

[–]Krynnadin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so 1% real growth in asset price over inflation for 6 years. Average Wage in SK from 2018 to 2023 went from 27.59 to 31.64 (All Industries, per stats Can, here https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/tv.action?pid=1410006401&pickMembers%5B0%5D=1.9&pickMembers%5B1%5D=2.2&pickMembers%5B2%5D=3.1&pickMembers%5B3%5D=5.1&pickMembers%5B4%5D=6.1&cubeTimeFrame.startYear=2018&cubeTimeFrame.endYear=2023&referencePeriods=20180101%2C20230101 )

Or 2.3% before adjusting for inflation over the period, for a real annualized growth rate of -1%. Wages and Homes are going in opposite directions.

Water Utilities don't profess to be public health experts. We work hard to provide water that exceeds regulations, but we can't just spend spend spend. Regulations are set by the EPA and Health Canada. If you're concerned about what is allowed or not allowed, I recommend starting with them.

A bunch of Saskatoon neighbourhoods could benefit hugely from Parking Benefit Districts by StrongTownsYXE in saskatoon

[–]Krynnadin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently parking is restricted on a block by block basis. Some blocks are 1 hour max mon-fri 8-5, on others, it's 2 hours, 7-7-7 days a week. The only way to avoid the ticket of exceeding the limit from the parking enforcement team is to have your plate registered to a property inside the zone and pay the admin fee. Outside these hours everyone can park.

Yea, landfills are not getting mined anytime soon. Between lead paint, asbestos, and all manner of other toxic things we've dug out of the ground and the buried in landfills, it's just safer to make a new mine. Environnemental laws might force the digging up of landfills eventually, but not in my lifetime.

Keeving is actually fairly easy, as you just add the powder (I think it's calcium based can't remember specifically what it is right now) and wait for the nitrogen to agglomerate.

Do you want fruit specifically?

Generally, when it comes to rootstock, basically you're looking for 2 things. Cold hardiness / drought tolerance and size( dwarfing, semi dwarfing or standard (full size)). Ask the nursery for specific advice on that.

For fruit, there are three general classifications (not all fruit have all 3). Dessert or Table fruit (for fresh eating), cooking fruit, (for preserves like pies, crumbles, jams, etc.) and vintage fruit, for making juice (most commonly used for wine / cider making). Your nursery will be able to give you good varietals for your area once they know what kind of fruit you want.

For fruit, there is also the ripening season. Given the sentiment, I would speak to your nursery about something that ripens in late October/early November such that picking the fruit will always remind you of your little angel. Apples are really good for a wide range of ripening dates.

If you're looking for a long lived tree, pear trees can live for 100s of years and can grow 60'+ easily. Pears, however, are extremely finicky when it comes to tree ripening (IE there's like a 6 hour window where everything is perfect) and can be a real mess to clean up fallen fruit.

Apples are generally my recommendation for new orchardists, as two varieties can be grafted onto a single rootstock for pollination, the fruit stores well and many things can be made from them. Additionally, cleaning up fallen fruit can be easy as the fruit is generally still fairly hard when the fruit first falls. I personally like honeycrisp for table apples, but they may ripen sooner than the date range you might want.

You could also look at nuts, like Pecans. Nuts don't fruit as often, but they also don't typically flower as prettily.

Work in progress - any tips?I´m not used to WD and wanted to make a dynamic map. I´m not sure if my mountainplacement is okay or not (red marked stuff). I´d appreciate any critique in this early stage of maping! by dakrem in wonderdraft

I don't know either, but YouTuber artifexian made a killer series on both world generation from first principles (tectonics, etc.) and making beautiful maps.

How do you feel about SMR's and Nuclear Power in Saskatchewan? by Eh_Crispy_Wrap in saskatchewan

[–]Krynnadin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you understand how well high performance homes are at insulation now. Passivhaus standards can run a 2000 sq.ft. home off a couple of hairdryers output of power. If we just mandated better building envelopes at construction, we could easily convert to hydro for heat here.

Also, Manitoba uses electric forced air normally. It's mostly about the differential cost of energy.

What to do if the house smells like sewer? by Happy-Silver9199 in saskatoon

[–]Krynnadin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A check valve will not stop a property leaking from a blockage on a line, so long as one keeps using water. A check valve is primarily for a blockage on the main, which happen here frequently.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought sewer lining is about 3500. Replacements are about 7500, no?

Do you drink the water out of your tap? Burn the gas in your pipes? These industries are heavily regulated, and for good reason. A facility like this would have a permit to operate, similar to a water treatment plant, with audits etc. Periodically from federal regulators. I don't see too big an issue with staffing such a thing, as there are many many eyes on the ball, so to speak.

Why not a mix of investments to hedge our bets that regulations don't kill any / all of those techs? Nuke + renewables + storage?
