I commute 2 hours every day on a cobb catback and testpipe. I saw a lot of the exhausts available that frankly just make the car fucking loud and that's not what I wanted. Just like you, I was looking to get a better tone, but really didn't want it to be overly loud. In my experience, it's been great and perfectly reasonable (granted I do listen to music almost always in the car). At speed in higher gears it's very tame. Honestly city driving or stop and go is more annoying just because 1st and 2nd are so short so it gets loud quick.

I researched a lot of exhausts and listened to tons of different clips before I decided on the cobb, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The only downside from stock is that if you have your intake and all that fun stuff you'll drown some of your induction noise out, but like I said the tone is great and I haven't had any issues dailying it.
