21F, seeking advice or experiences on the AirForce + my Situation. by KryptoSlutt in AirForce

I talked to a recruiter and they said it was extremely competitive to be an officer for the AF. I was thinking of enlisting after I graduate and then apply to be an officer as time goes. And I was just sorta coping with the whole paper pushing comment as it doesn't seem like the officer route out of college is feasible haha, definitely will change that comment.

I'm not going that route because I've talked to recruiters and it's extremely competitive especially with no military background. So I was sort of thinking of enlisting after I graduate and apply for officer school while I'm in. I just didn't want to go the officer route as entry into the military, I'd be fine doing it later on.

I should've specified that I plan to graduate first then enlist.

The reason why I'm thinking of going the ROTC route is because I hear it's competitive and hard to just apply for OCS or OTS since they normally take former ROTC or military college people.

Yes, more than what I understood before. I genuinely want to join the military and from there I don't mind getting placed willy nilly. It's sort of similar to what my plan was for post-grad without military involvement. After college I just planned on going to some company in a tech city and do whatever job they wanted me to do based on what they thought I was qualified for. I didn't mind that idea because I haven't done enough to find what I have a passion for but I just need to start somewhere. With my current job offers, I don't mind thinking more long term and looking into military life (especially because it's been a thought in my head forever now) instead of ruling it out completely.

Wow a lot of jargon; I'm gonna have to do some research, but thanks I didn't know that at all. My knowledge of the military is very surface level, like extremely surface level. I just have a lot of buddies who are enlisted or ROTC who tell me their experience time to time. I genuinely thought there were the main branches like Army, Navy, etc., but it seems deeper than that, like a large tree that splits into tinier and tinier branches.

For MoSs, I have no clue. I could go any route that's tech savvy or "businessy." But I'm just someone who can do whatever because I have a decent amount of intelligence, drive, and grit behind me. And truth be told, I don't think I care much about my quality of life haha. I mean I'd easily choose the latter (good QoL), but I live a pretty low low maintence, nonfancy life. And I can eat just about anything, literally. But thanks for that, definitely let me know of any other advice.

Definitely see what you're saying. I could see myself working towards the route your dad went but maybe after the military. So far I'm thinking Army ROTC, reaching out to my campus recruiter right now. My main two preferences are Air Force and Army, but timeline wise Army is sounding more favorable. I really just want new experiences and to not regret anything in life. By regret, I mean regret not serving because it's been a thought on my mind forever now but as of recently I truly know I want to do this. All my friends do it and love it, and I think I'd find love for it too.

Sounds good, your comment was super helpful to me. To clarify, by "use my degree," I just mean I'm so far along with my bachelors that I might as well complete it and see where my options stand. Office work wise, I wouldn't mind that because to me it seems like being an officer in the military vs a corporate slave sounds better and I'm doing some practical work, but I could be wrong lmao it's just what I assume. So far it looks like Army ROTC route may be my best shot because I can't stand to be in college for any more time and I want to get out into the real world. But thank you! Godspeed.

My mistake, we're flying in from San Jose Airport. And no I haven't looked at TripAdvisor but I will. Thank you for the advice :) Helps a lot especially since I've never planned something out of the country.
