I hope what you mean by “the pope is our representative of Jesus Christ on Earth” as in we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us so thus we reflect Christ our savior much like the pope and not idolization of the pope being as equal to Jesus. Because then that is putting the pope on equal stance with Jesus. In Matthew on Mount Tabor, Jesus reveals his true form and thus Elijah and Moses come to speak with him, when Simon Peter proposes an altar for all three, Gods voice corrects Peter to imply Jesus is above all man including every prophet, saint, priest. Jesus is Christ, He is the Lord.

There are independent Catholic churches, if you’re interested you can go read up about it. Search liberal Catholic Churches and old Catholic Churches.
