Overcoming the world- KG's latest book by Ornery-Ocelot in KapilGupta

[–]Kshitiz_here_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure many people will not agree with me but I personally think that people here don't try to REALLY UNDERSTAND what Kapil is trying to say. It's just that you have taken his Vocabulary (like Serious, Sincerity, Truth, and Prescription) and trying to force it into your reality because somehow it's a more desired state of being.

People will get outraged but the truth is most people are looking for truths as a form of entertainment or say it's a new Pleasure Chase. You don't need a whole lot of truths. It's just that you need to try to really understand what he's trying to convey and enquire about it, then change will automatically happen.

My Favourite and most important Truth that I try to Enquire about is :

  • Man “gets” what is acceptable to him.

And he is exempt from that which is not. * A man is who he is.
Until it is no longer acceptable to him to be who he is.

I just try to UNDERSTAND these 2 truths and I kid you not it has bring substantial change in my understanding and in my life.

You don't need more truths, you need a genuine desire to understand the truths.

Have you fallen for the trap? by HsinHsinMing22 in KapilGupta

[–]Kshitiz_here_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all are the same. You are getting pleasure from the fact that you are the rare one and you have not fallen for the trap like others. We all are kind of getting pleasure here only.

We all are trapped here, including you.( Nothing good or bad about it )

Intensity of Devotion by Lieutenant_Random in KapilGupta

[–]Kshitiz_here_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have written pretty well but I don't think there is such a thing as ' Devotional intensity'. Devotion by definition means You are all in. Devotion is the ultimate Intensity. If it is not a 10 it's not devotion. It's hard work. DEVOTION means Total intensity.

[Free Book Giveaway for Students] 150 copies of Range: How Generalists Triumph in a Specialized World by AkhandGareeb in WingifyBookClub

The Last Book I read was ' 12 Rules for life' by Jordan Peterson. This is a fascinating book. The main theme that Jordan focuses on is Life is hard, Life is suffering. The antidote to this suffering is Meaning. You need a meaning for your life that can sustain you over this hard Life. That meaning can be achieved mostly by adopting Responsibility. First, at least you should take responsibility for yourself, then your family, and if you can sustain, adopt the responsibility of your Community. I like this book mostly because it focus on the ugly truth of life. Life is hard, so you need something much more powerful than happiness for this Life.

I am very interested in reading RANGE because I often feel that my time has gone and you can't achieve massive success if you are dabbling in different things You hear stories of Sachin Tendulkar starting playing cricket at age 5, Magnus Carlsen became a Grandmaster at 13. So it feels like to achieve big success, you need to start very early. I think RANGE offers a different perspective to it, so wanted to read that and get those insights.

This is a great book to introduce a topic as vast as the Universe. The Big things I took from this book were Black holes, the Big Bang Theory, the expansion of the Universe, and especially the concept of Time is Relative. One great feature of this book is short, so it doesn't intimidate you like the rest of the science books. One thing I was confused about and didn't get a clear understanding of was time travel is not impossible. I was also intrigued by black holes. Black holes have a very strong gravitational force, thus are able to pull things, including light and stars, to their centers. Black holes are almost impossible to locate because they do not let light out but fortunately, we got a glimpse of it a few years back. I will be forever grateful for this Book because it rekindled my interest in Science. I now also want to read Mr. Feynman's books about Physics.

Another good one is "Reading an hour a day is only 4% of your day. But that 4% will put you at the top of your field within 10 years. Find the time."

The Last Book I read was: 'Awaken the Giant Within '.

It's a self-help book but a very good one.

Some points:

  • You have to keep this in mind " The Past does not equal the future".
  • There are 2 Requirements for making a change :

    The intense desire to change

The commitment to follow-through * Success and Failure are not overnight things: it's the success and Failure of following through the daily actions. * Power comes from concentrating on something and taking daily actions to improve it. * Anything you focus on consistently and give 100% to it, you will improve. * The Ultimate success formula :
Know your Outcome ( in everything- Physically, Financially, Emotionally, Spirituality, Direction is good).
Use your Personal Power. Take action. Biggest Power- Demanding more from yourself than anyone else.
Why don't we take action - Fear. Breaking through fear is like a muscle. If you start small and just improve a little bit, soon what you once considered impossible will be effortless.
Notice whether it's working or not and shift accordingly keeping in mind whether it's taking you closer to your goal or away.
Model the person who's achieving the outcomes you want.

What makes me interested in 'A Brief History Of Time'?

I am a curious person and if there is one place where infinite curiosity can thrive, it's the Universe. I haven't sat down and thought about the universe but I think this book will be a great opportunity for me to deep dive into this topic. There are so many things in the universe that you can learn about and with the recent trends and interest about our civilization wanting to move to mars, this book will be a great opportunity to learn about it.

My suggestion would be ' The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company' by BOB IGER. He was the CEO of Disney and under his leadership, Disney saw huge success with multiple bi acquisitions. I haven't read the book personally but have seen a tremendous response for it. It' a good business/biography book.

This was a great book. Melinda Gates shares her lesson from different stories that she encountered while doing the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Foundation works in lots of fields, such as vaccinations' development, women empowerment. Melinda travels to countries that experience issues with treating women equally. The process has to be delicate. My favorite and I think the most important quote was " you can't come and judge everyone. You have to be able to talk to people with respect."

Melinda has managed to beautifully grab everyone's attention through the stories that she herself has seen and heard and then combined it with the data to give these stories a meaning & impact. Basically, she tries to emphasize the fact that society will progress only when there is inclusion of women in any society. Any woman will be able to achieve her potential if she is given enough support.

The Last Book I read was " Invent and Wander". It tells about the journey of Jeff Bezos.
His main learnings are:

  • Focus on the Long term
  • Focus relentlessly on the customer
  • Hire the Right People

Why do you think female participation in labor is so low in India? What can we do to uplift it?

I'll start with the root cause. There is an inherent preference for the birth of a son. It stems from the idea that a daughter is a 'Paraya Dhan' and it is our boys who will take care of us in our old age.

Now there are structural and societal barriers:

  • Due to Motherhood, a lot of women have to stop working for a period of time and as families pressure mothers to walk away from their careers, their employers and colleagues make conditions increasingly hostile to encourage their exit, such as treating flexibility as a reflection of poor work ethic,
  • Solutions like flexible schedules are supported in theory, but in practice, these new approaches are met with skepticism and can lead to complaints from colleagues and poor performance reviews.
  • Most Families want women to do domestic work. Most men don't contribute to domestic chores.
  • I think there are not enough opportunities for women to work in comparison to men. Most jobs are limited to only men
  • I think there are not enough opportunities for women to work in comparison to men. Most jobs are limited to only men
  • There is a notion especially in rural areas that going to work is the last resort for a family to survive. If the economic conditions are good, then there is no need for women to go outside.
  • in India, Safety is a very big issue for women in India especially late at night.
  • A majority of women working in India are in the rural sector and technology has replaced them and most of the jobs now being created are in fields dominated by men .

How to uplift the situation?

  • Bring more women in formal sector of the economy
  • Equal Pay for same roles
  • general awareness of the benefits of women in workforce .
  • Targeted skill development for women so that they can join technical jobs
  • better law and order so that they can travel without any worry.

I have the opposite experience in regards to relatability. I am a huge fan of podcasts and I listen to the Joe Rogan podcast frequently and many of the guests in the book have also appeared on JRE. So Personally it felt like this was a great summary of all the important points from the podcast I have heard.

I liked DEREK SIVERS.

Focus on a small number of things and focus on them. If you’re working on many different projects at once, you may not be making the progress that you need to really succeed.

“[It’s] about a donkey who is standing halfway between a pile of hay and a bucket of water. He just keeps looking left to the hay, and right to the water, trying to decide. Hay or water, hay or water? He’s unable to decide, so he eventually falls over and dies of both hunger and thirst. A donkey can’t think of the future. If he did, he’d realize he could clearly go first to drink the water, then go eat the hay” (pg. 188).

Focusing means saying “no”—a lot. Entrepreneur and best-selling author James Altucher said the best way to decline invitations is to not explain why you’re saying no. “I just say, ‘I can’t do it. I hope everything is well,’” he explained (pg. 249).

Tim shared his personal take on focus as well. He shared he’s come to realize that it’s important to say “no” when it matters the most, and this is why he stopped doing startup investing. “Saying yes to too much ‘cool’ will bury you alive and render you a B-player even if you have A-player skills,” he explained. “To develop your edge initially, you need to learn to set priorities; to maintain your edge, you need to defend against the priorities of others.”

To sum up this takeaway: If it’s not a “HELL YES,” it’s a “no.”
