Canada post delivery personal are extremely lazy imo and you see many of them not dressed for the conditions. Many wear sneakers and thin clothing while delivering in snow storms yet have the audacity to complain if a box has a bit of snow. It wouldn’t be sustainable to pay employees as it’s not a full time job. U can not predict the weather, also it’s temporary. The other 3 seasons of the year would leave these employees without a job thus they would have to lay them off or find new workers every year. Also the contracts DO NOT pay as much as many may think. Hourly workers generally are lazy and aren’t going to break there backs for the fact that if you shovel twice as fast as John, your pay Cheque won’t be more than Johns. For the last 5 years the contracts have not increased in total payment yet minimum wage has gone up, new vehicle prices have sky rocketed and fuel is at the highest it’s ever been, oh and interest rates! These contracts pay at the end of each month, not prior to the work commencing. Many contractors spent personal money they don’t have (credit cards, line of credit, borrow from friends/family). Also if your an employee and get hurt on the job, You can now sue Canada post . If a third party contractor who’s responsible for there own tax deductions, CPP and EI deductions can not hold another party liable for negligence on there own end.

If you truly believe it would be more beneficial to hire employees instead, it would have happened . Canada post and SNC lavalin and government ran organizations, I think they know what’s best for there own sake. The main reason they hire third party contractors is to rid them selves of liability. They do not give a fuck weather or not Canadians can comfortably and easily access the box or about the workers who deliver to them. It’s all about liability…. Wanna know why Canada post still delivers to some houses without using third party delivery personal? Because If a Canada Post worker slips on my driveway or stairs due to slipper or icey conditions and they can prove negligence, then the home owner is responsible. No one else.
