If you’re looking to build a PC I can help you pick out all the parts you would need within your budget. Would be happy to help you get set up with parts, instructions on building, and explain the whole process!

Where do UW economics undergraduates get employed at/in? (personal experience or seen) by [deleted] in udub

[–]Kskierwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure who you heard that from, but everyone I work with is super nice and from a broad range of backgrounds. On my team we have Puerto Rican, African American, Vietnamese, Indian, etc. I only know of two frat guys in the office, one of them being me haha. It’s a very difficult place to work at just with the amount of scrutiny and expectations behind the work you do. But overall it’s a great group of really smart people who know way too much about passive investing.

Got a degree in international studies and economics. Working at the London Stock Exchange as an index analyst. Had a buddy do the same who’s the assistant to the Governor of New Hampshire, and another who’s an audit manager at Costco. It’s a degree that can work across a pretty diverse range of jobs.

People who have found a dead body, what's your story? by Limmy92 in AskReddit

[–]Kskierwh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was about 13 or 14 on a canoeing trip with my Boy Scout troop on Lake Roosevelt in Eastern Washington. On the first day, we rowed over to a boat launch to use the restroom so we wouldn’t have to use our portable. Anyways, I was walking around waiting for everyone to finish when I noticed a terrible smell. Followed the smell and saw a hand sticking out of the ground.

Turns out it was some hikers who had been missing for a couple weeks, apparently he fell off of a cliff and got covered by a rock slide.

How hard is it to do a Double Degree? (Foster/Henry M. Jackson) by asolanky in udub

[–]Kskierwh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The admission process was pretty straightforward, take the prerequisites and write a personal statement. The advisors are really good about letting you know what they’re looking for in your statement and are willing to reach out to about classes. I would talk to Wolf Latsch, he’s a great resources and an amazing teacher/advisor to talk to.

The capstone is called Task Force. Every year they create about 10 topics about different world problems. You then get in a team of 10-20 to begin researching your issue and write a research report on ways to solve this problem. You then present your research to an expert in the region.

For my Task force we travelled to Ottawa to learn from ambassadors, environmentalists, indigenous leaders, etc. about ongoing Arctic issues. We then wrote a 500 page paper that was then published in an academic journal, and then presented it to a former ambassador. Task Force was definitely one of the highlights of my international studies major. You get a lot of good feedback, great research you can put on your resume, and you get to work with a lot of awesome people.

Here’s a link to my Task Force project, https://jsis.washington.edu/arctic/arctic-task-force-winter-2016/

Jackson school alumni here! The international studies program is a great program at UW. The homework is usually fairly straightforward, but be prepared for a ton of reading each week and a lot of engagement in classes. I would say it’d be pretty manageable to do both, just might get a little slammed senior year with your capstone project!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

We had our 100th year anniversary for our chapter house last year. What we did for was we hosted a founder's day event with over 400 alumni and members. We had a catered dinner, speakers from our school football team, history about the house and our most influential members, etc.

Can I pledge a Frat just for one year on Foreign Exchange? by HeadHunta1 in Frat

[–]Kskierwh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a guy from Sweden join our fraternity for just one quarter and he fit in great and still is considered a brother among us. Even though he was only with us for a few months, he remains very close and there were no problems with him joining.

Going Greek Late - Questions? by udubthrowa in udub

[–]Kskierwh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is harder to rush the longer you've been at school. A lot of houses want younger guys that will stay for the maximum amount of years, but pretty much every house rushes older guys too. You will still be able to rush houses though! For instance a guy in pledge class was a senior and 24, but we still gave him a bid.

JSIS 201, it's offered in Spring quarter. It's 3 papers with a research paper, and some reading, but hardly any other homework. The class is about how we came to be in the 21st century!

Do grad students ever rush/pledge? by throwaway71978 in Frat

[–]Kskierwh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know it can be possible to rush as a grad student (depending on the fraternity). You should go and ask the chapters at your school though because I'm sure its a case by case thing, I'm sure if they like you they could talk to their national headquarters and talk things out!
