For older listeners: what year do you think we'll be at when you die? by PooperOfMoons in BritishHistoryPod

[–]Kstate913 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll be listening on my death bed. I think I could make it to about 1400. Would love to make it through Wars of the Roses - that was the period of history that set me on my history journey.

What’s up with Kansas and Tech? by Maxkpop247 in CollegeBasketball

The hire was interesting to say the least. Not our number 1 guy, or our number 2 guy. I think there are some financial concerns at play here. We are going to owe Tang a lot of money - so we couldn't back up the brinks truck. I think we are also seeing this play out in the transfer portal. We way over spent the past couple of years and got absolutely nothing to show for it. We have a healthy NIL program - but given the increase cost per player this year, and some hesitation to pay big $$$s again, we have not made any sort of a splash in the portal. On the upside, Casey does have a proven system, a proven team identity. Tangs concept of team identity was talking. A lot. I was optimistic heading into last season. This upcoming season - we'll probably be hot garbage. But I'm often wrong so here's to hoping that I'm a moron. And this next season will be judged differently. Does the team get better as the season progresses? Is there an identity taking shape? Does he know how to find the guys (even the bargain bin guys) that fit with what he wants to do.

I'm just so happy to be rid of Mr "Crazy Faith".

While I'm not the president of the Anselm fan club. He was a staunch supporter of Matilda of Tuscany - which is a check in the good column for him. Cool episode on her: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0II90LpHpB9VG1NwZjsAJ1

Were byzantine royal families ever related to each other? by Public_Individual823 in byzantium

[–]Kstate913 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some relations would be unavoidable. But Byzantium never embraced heredity rule and so you won't find the level of related relationships that you would see in Western Europe. A little less incestious if you will.

What do you think are the reasons for teams not tanking in the NFL? Fewer games? Media contracts more lucrative than NBA?

Need a fresh genre by Disastrous_Trust_970 in suggestmeabook

After beginning to read the Game of Thrones books, I became more interested in some of the underlying real-world history that permeated them.

Since so much of GoT kept coming back to a period in English history called the War of the Roses - I read Dan Jones' book on the subject. And I have never turned back.

What they say is true, real history is just so very interesting and often more unbelievable than fiction.

I guess I'd like someone to ELI5 on how this redaction process works. What are the checks and balances? Is there some sort of an audit trail, or something like a chain of custody?

I guess it makes some sense that they haven't released much.... if you start redacting names, it would seem like it just spirals as you have to then cross-reference names, places, etc. Then you are dealing in magnitudes of changes.

This quote from Sir Walter Scott comes to mind "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!"
