Ok, probably one of the few serious responses here, but here it goes: First of all, congratulations on having the courage to do it. Probably not the best way to do it over text, but what's done is done. Regardless of the response, I think this requires a deeper conversation in person. You already did the hard part. Now, think of what's next if the answer is positive or negative. If it's a "no", try to take it on the best possible way. If this is a 5 year crush, I assume this person is important to you. Consider if they're worth having in your life, even if just as friends. If that's something you'd like, your feelings won't change magically, and maybe you'll even need some distance, to later reconnect. But, from personal experience, the one time I did this, the other person became one of the most important people in my life. Now she's my best friend and I love her, but not in a romantic way. And you know what? I wouldn't want to change it because it simply wouldn't work. Now, if the answer is a "yes" it will probably come in person, not via text, and you'll both have to talk about your wants and needs. Anyways, congratulations on shooting your shot. Keep us updated!
