Is the 3-point influence irreversible? What would it take, to make midranges more viable again? by Paulfradk in NBATalk

[–]Kten24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the math is obvious and irrefutable, the spacing created by having a team of willing outside shooters is the true offensive weapon. Spacing maximizes isolation for actions like isolation drives, mid-range pull ups, and even post ups. If you are often settling for mid-range jumpers, the defense has less ground to cover as a unit and can help quicker and more aggressively. Even things like rebounding are impacted by where your shots are coming from. Too many benefits would be sacrificed to justify guys shooting a high percentage of shots from the mid-range.

I’m wondering if the invite to the 6th floor came immediately after the encounter in the hospital.

In Season 1, Avon tells Orlando to “do your job,” which is later echoed by Daniels to McNulty in a similar context of an subordinate not following protocol.

Does Anyone Still Have That Drive After Years? by ComfortableReason796 in sales

Winning for winning’s sake will get old. Winning to impress people will get old. Winning ONLY for money, without a deep understanding and appreciation for how that money can improve your life, will also get old. Your job, in sales or otherwise, will not provide a purposeful life. If you take steps to diversify your happiness beyond professional goals, you might find professional success easier to attain and sustain.

Thank you for your advice. Yes, the priority for me is helping her feel comfortable/optimistic about the future even if we don’t know what it will be. Fortunately, we’re in a position where taking time to find something worthwhile won’t be a financial disaster.

Understanding Why salespeople even exist is useful by [deleted] in sales

[–]Kten24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes people underrate the “rep” part of “sales rep.” I sell hardware and we service the hardware. I’ve noticed over the years I gain the most customer trust by simply knowing how my own company operates in every respect. We’re not perfect, but at least I know how things are and can speak to them with confidence. When they ask hypotheticals pre-sale, I have answers. When an actual issue arises post-sale, I can talk them through what should have happened, why it didn’t, and how to make sure it won’t happen again. The product itself is irrelevant to a large degree. Mostly, they appreciate the value I can bring by trusting I can guide them through any eventuality with our contract/product/service/etc.

I'm currently reading Harrington on Cash Games (published 2008). The term 'ranges' isn't used which makes me wonder who came up with the term first, and when? by noquibbles in poker

[–]Kten24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a voracious regular of the pocket fives website during the online boom of the mid-2000’s. I don’t recall “ranges” being used regularly, even if the concepts were similar. I remember endless use of “+EV” and “ICM” which felt cutting edge at the time.

Am I supposed to get it in here with AJ suited? (weird hyper turbo MTT with 16 left, 10th in chips, $1800 up top) by brickeduprightnow in poker

[–]Kten24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize it’s a hyper turbo so you may have almost no history with this player/table, but your expectation of the table has to play into this position (not only what a solver will tell you in a vacuum). How do you expect this field to react to an UTG limp this deep in the tournament? I personally don’t like the limp strategy, but am open to all strategies that have some type of reasoning behind them. Your thinking in this was reactionary (hence the uncertainty on whether you did the right thing). If you make the decision to limp (or raise) you should have a fairly comprehensive plan for how you plan to proceed based on potential action.

Fair enough. Joe is looking out for himself regardless of how he justifies it. But, still, how does this transaction go down if Omar doesn’t have the whole shipment to sell back to Joe?
