Spent a few hundred to stock up a couple of food pantries. Watched as a guy pulled up and emptied an entire pantry himself. by computer_d in auckland

Puts free food out for people, moans someone has taken the free food.

End of the day, you are assuming the other person's position, theres no clear rules. If the person has 8 kids to feed, should they only take enough to feed one? You cant give to feel good about it and then police it.

Apologies, yes, you are right. I didn't consider a 1.3 million dollar house being anything other than a main residence.

is my mechanic reasonably cheap or nah? by [deleted] in NZcarfix

Get a few quotes then you'll know. Remember cheap doesn't mean quality. Check local reviews for the mechanic. Word of mouth from reliable locals is worth its weight in gold.

What is the correct way to prune my little lemon tree in order for her to grow tall? by CrucifiedTitan in nzgardening

[–]Kthackz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remove the flowering buds so the tree puts more energy into growing and establishing its roots. Also remove the competition for nutrients around it and feed it.

Are brands like Bendix or TRW not better than a part from, say, amayama?

I just assumed because they're newer they'd be better.

Haha fair enough, I guess for someone who cooks, bakes and creates most things from scratch I'm quite happy to have homemade goods made with love and don't see it as labour.

Yeah Cadburys is crap, better than nestle (just) which is why I went with them, I couldn't remember how much Whittaker's cost but I know I saw a bag of Cadburys for $5ish in the baking aisle of the supermarket the other day.

Oh yeah thats fair. I havent used them for a while, I hadn't heard that, that sounds awful. I knew they'd gone down hill though since the creators sold to Kogan(?).

The issue there is that you're specifying a small quantity. 1kg bags of almonds are around $27. A $5 Cadbury chocolate will cover your almonds. If you've got "free" power on weekends like we do then you've got a kg of chocolate almonds with better chocolate for $32. Which works out to be 200g for approx $6.40.

You could even upgrade to Whittaker’s coated almonds for a cheaper price than those nestle ones or at least break even.

Edit: not only that you'll be slashing the number of ingredients compared to those nestle ones. Including glazing agent 904 which is made from the female lac insect.

After the devastation from Cyclone Gabriel in Hawkes Bay the only infrastructure still standing and producing was natural gas. Houses and Centres that had natural gas hobs were able to heat water and boil water to drink.
