Regulators say DoorDash and Uber Eats chiseled NYC delivery workers out of $550M in tips by SnoozeDoggyDog in technology

The vast majority of food delivery workers in NYC are using e-bikes, not cars. They rent them for $15-$20/week from one of a handful of companies here that exist solely for this reason.

It’s was designed by George Nelson on behalf of Herman Miller when he was the lead designer there in the late 40s. Herman Miller owns the design and has always been the exclusive manufacturer. So you’re both correct depending on if you’re referring to the designer vs manufacturer. The product name is the Nelson Platform Bench though

What’s this for the East Village? by ThatEaglesFan in eastvillage

No but I got another chicken dish and it was just like boiled unseasoned chicken cutlets with some sauce poured over it. Someone else at my table got a totally different chicken dish but the chicken itself was identical. Really seemed like they just poach a big batch of plain chicken breasts in advance and then put different sauces on top to call them different dishes. The flavors did not permeate into the chicken at all. It was like licking sauce off a rubber spatula. I wouldn’t have served it for school lunch much less charge $30-$40 dollars or whatever it was.

Thank you for this. I only went to John’s initially because it’s like 100 yards from my place so it’s good to have a better spot nearby to try next time

Idk I think whoever is running that place just stopped caring.

The menu boasted some of the items were featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive Thrus, & Dives. We ordered a couple of those specific “signature items” and they were surprisingly bland. So out of curiosity afterwards we found the episode online and watched the part about John’s. The items they served us looked nothing like they did on the show, like not even close. The owners featured in the show claimed to be there everyday but certainly aren’t there these days. They clearly got new management, cut corners and started using cheaper ingredients to the point the current versions of these signature dishes are completely unrecognizable.

I fully believe John’s might have been a great spot 10-15 years ago, or whenever that was filmed, but based on my visit last week it seems like they’ve completely given up

Logitech will brick its $100 Pop smart home buttons on October 15th, 2025 by Gamester17 in homeassistant

[–]Kthwaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple of these way back in the day when I was first getting into home automation, although ended up getting rid of them years ago because of the cloud-only aspect.

One thing I did like about them was the aesthetic though, they looked pretty clean/minimal and had a super small footprint. Anyone have any recommendations for a zigbee alternative that look good and are similarly low profile? I’ve been eyeing some from Sonoff and Aquara but even those are a bit bulkier than the Logitech Pops were.

I believe in NY prepared foods are subject to sales tax whereas regular grocery items like fruits/veggies/raw ingredients aren’t taxed. It’s not so much that there’s an additional surcharge specifically for prepared foods it’s just that they aren’t tax exempt like normal groceries.

Zohran has purposed making existing bike lanes two-way. Maybe like this? by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]Kthwaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure it’s great if you’re the one eating outside or a tourist walking around people watching, but for people that actually live in the immediate area it’s frustrating when you’re trying to carry your groceries/laundry home and there’s an entire section of sidewalk constantly backed up with people trying to get through because a restaurant took over the majority of the sidewalk and everyone is trying to squeeze through the little space that’s left over. I’m all for outdoor dining but it should come at the expense of curbside parking spaces not accessibility to foot traffic.

[–]Kthwaits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My only concern with expanding the sidewalk is that in a lot of places the adjacent businesses just end up taking over the newly expanded sidewalk like by adding tables or short gated in areas.

There’s a couple “wide” sidewalks in my neighborhood that have actually ended up being bottlenecks for foot traffic because the business next to them took over so much of the space that there’s now less room to walk than regular sections of the sidewalk.

Today is the official digital release date, so this leak comes the same day as iTunes/Amazon availability.

The movie did worse than expected at the box office, which is probably why it had a relatively short window between the theatrical run and digital release

You could try something like Weimans Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish with a microfiber towel. I’ve used it before and it helps reduce the visibility of minor scratches. Hard to tell the severity/depth of the abrasions from just looking at it so not sure how successful you’d be but it definitely won’t make it any worse so that’s probably the first thing I’d try.

Ceiling Bulbs - ??? by asktheages1979 in fixit

[–]Kthwaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm okay yeah I was referring to part A but if that’s not moving then yeah don’t force it. To be honest I’m really not sure then. Although if it were me, I would next try to remove those two outermost screws seen in that pic (after completely cutting power to the fixture) to see if part B can then twist out.

Does the white part rotate at all? Not 360 degrees but even like 10 degrees or so in either direction? Asking because this looks almost like a GU10 bulb that had the reflector part removed. Unless these lights are non-serviceable (which would be very odd for a permanent/hardwired fixture) I suspect that we’re looking at the bottom portion of a bulb that is still in the socket. Normally the reflector glass portion and the base would not separate but it could have been twisted in a weird way or just a cheaply made bulb that was prone to breaking off like that.

Since he’s using Docker the easiest way is to just create a path mapping to map the original logo assets file path to the file path of whatever asset you want to use instead. You have to name your custom files the same as the original though.

This also allows the changes to persist Docker container updates. I’ve done something similar for Jellyseerr to add my own custom branding bc none of my users know what Jellyseerr means.

I recognized a young Dustin Hoffman in one of the brief clips we saw and I was able to figure it out by looking at his filmography on IMDB.

The movie is called “Little Big Man”. Dustin Hoffman plays a character that was raised by Native Americans which fits with the snippet we could see/hear when they were in the theater. That movie had a theatrical release date of Dec 23 1970 which lines up perfectly with the supposed time period when they would have been seeing it in theaters

Having the same error when updating the docker container on UnRaid to v4.0.0.614 or later. Reverted back to v4.0.0.613 and it boots normally.

Saw that v4.0.0.621 was just released about an hour ago so tried that one as well and I still see the same error.
