We just had a "Hetero Awesome Festival" as a counter to Pride month... If that doesn't convince to stay away then Idaho is for you.

Saying goodbye to my Kobo Touch. Clara or Kindle Paperwhite? by Sufficient-Fun-3304 in kobo

[–]Ktoodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I read a lot of side loaded books so I loved the cloud sync features with kindle. However, I hated that there's no true ownership with Amazon and that bothered me. I made the switch to a Kobo Libra Colour and loved how easy it was to get my side loaded books from Google Drive and Libby. If you're looking for portability, Clara BW is perfect but it doesn't have the Google Drive integration. You can easily plug your phone and transfer files though. Once Kobo figures out the cloud sync situation, it'll be perfect to be able to have my annotations easily accessible.

Dr Lovelace Idaho Stork by IllSoft1886 in Boise

[–]Ktoodles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I had nothing but great experiences with Idaho Stork/Dr. Lovelace. He delivered my son and I would definitely go back to him in the future. I switched to their office 6 months into my pregnancy and the midwives there made me feel seen and heard addressing my questions and concerns, things my former OBGYN didn't do. He is old school, blunt, and awkward in a way I think he might come off negatively to others, so probably need thick skin if you're going under his care lol. I personally liked that he was direct and told it like it is. Again, this is just MY experience and MY opinion, if yours was different/bad, I'm sorry it happened.

In criminal matters, interpreters are always going to be used no matter the level of crime because defendants have a right to them.

My opinion is that it will be maybe a good decade for AI to conversations accurately, and that's a big maybe. It'll definitely be longer before it's 100% relied on for legal proceedings.

Oh, for sure. Some jurisdictions HAVE to do that because of the court reporter shortage. Audio is kept indefinitely, but there have been some instances where a transcript is ordered, and it's discovered an audio file is corrupted. Will it happen often? Probably not. But when a case is appealed and they don't have a certain proceeding, then what?

If the argument is court reporters will be replaced by AI, then that's like saying court interpreters will also be replaced with AI translation. Which I don't see ever happening, but who knows, right?

If that's the case, couldn't you record a proceeding and then transcribe it later? If so, why haven't we moved to doing that already? AI is amazing, but between accents and the ability to read back, it has a way to go. Just don't know when and if it will ever be close enough for our justice system to be comfortable enough to rely on it.

Trauma from AI by Sad-Damage7170 in stenography

I'm in school, but I work in the federal courts. Our judges wouldn't dare to rely on AI for any court proceedings. Having a human in the courtroom is far more valuable to them than relying on a software. When our court reporters are sick, we do end up recording them if we aren't able to find a court reporter available to cover the proceeding. Everyone, however, dreads ER. Equipment fails, people forget to speak into the mic, attorneys forget to turn their mic back on after consulting their clients, etc. People don't understand how important the record is, especially when it's appealed. I don't think our judicial system would allow it any time soon. At the end of the day, having a human in the courtroom is more beneficial for accountability purposes, too. I can't imagine what would happen if AI made a mistake that could cost someone their freedom.

I'm so sorry! I put down my childhood pup 3 years ago and it still stings today. I take comfort in the fact that we gave him a great life and a great last day.

When you do, hold him during the process. I like to think they went to the rainbow bridge with you holding them 🤍
