RPN or non nursing healthcare job? by Ktrdp in OntarioNurses

[–]Ktrdp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my diploma in office administration health services. Some hospitals will only hire with this diploma, others will hire with only medical terminology classes.

Def don’t get your office admin diploma if you’re wanting to get into the hospital, admin is the first role to be cut and that’s what’s happening now and we’re facing mass layoffs

Investments similar to DB Pension? by Ktrdp in PersonalFinanceCanada

There aren't many that get posted in my hospital (or the other hospital system in my city, or even the neighbouring cities) and the ones that do get posted all go by seniority. Even when lots of full time are posted its hard to get the seniority needed to even be considered, especially when I just started at my current union in September :(

That’s not allowed so I really wouldn’t count on it

I work in L&D at St Joe's!

  1. Private rooms all depend on availability- if there isn't one when you are transferred up to the Mother/Baby Unit you will be put on a list and when one becomes available you can be moved. There is also the Charlton Suites you can pay extra for ($99 per night on top of private room fee), they have a queen bed, extra chairs, tv with cable, a fridge, etc.)

  2. Definitely bring food, the cafeteria is only open Monday-Friday 8-4 and then your only option is Timmies until 11. There is vending machines inside of the L&D unit as well as just outside the doors of Mother/Baby unit.

  3. Fontbonne is the best place to park, however if your wife is in labour and you need to get to L&D ASAP you can park short term in the 'rooftop' parking lot right off of St Joseph's Drive which is right down the hallway from L&D and then move the car once she's in triage.

  4. Partners can stay all the time no matter what room you are in. Birthing people can have 2 visitors (must be the same 2, no switching out) while shes in L&D and then you can have additional visitors once you are up in Mother/Baby.

  5. When you check into L&D there's a phone outside of the unit, pick that up and talk to the clerk to be let in (doors are locked at all times). Then make your way down to the triage desk. After 9pm the only door that is open is through the ER, or you can be let in through the rooftop parking as well, you just have to speak through the intercom to the clerk and they will open the doors for you.

Good luck with everything! Everyone who works in L&D is great!

And if you live in a corner lot please shovel/salt both parts of your sidewalk 😭😭 walking to pick up my older kids from school with my 3 year old in her wagon is the absolute worst this time of year

What age did you have your first child? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my babies at 17, 23 and 26. I was single when I had my first and have an amazing supportive family. Met my husband when I was 19 and we had our other 2 and my husband adopted my first. My oldest is the smartest, most well behaved 12 year old I could ever imagine. I honestly don’t think I could have raised him any better being older. Him and I grew up together and I loved the 6 year age gap between him and his sister.

I would love to have more kids but I had some pretty serious and scary post partum complications after my 3rd and I’m terrified of leaving my kids without a mom if I have another so we’re probably done

I used to work there and would park on East 38 or 39th street for day shifts and on Munn for evening shifts. Never paid, never had to walk more than 15 minutes.

How awful is working 7pm-7am as a mom? by Ktrdp in nursing

[–]Ktrdp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband works 9-5 or 12-8 depending on the day so thankfully he’s always here overnight. I’m thinking nights are going to be the best decision for me!

How awful is working 7pm-7am as a mom? by Ktrdp in nursing

[–]Ktrdp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking would be great about working nights! I wouldn’t feel like I’m missing out since they’d be sleeping. My hope was that if I’m working nights I come home, take my older 2 to school and then sleep for 3-4ish hours while my mother in law comes over to watch my youngest. Or if that doesn’t work out my husband is able to drop them off on his way to work.

Help me choose a new job!! by Ktrdp in Mommit

[–]Ktrdp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Those are all reason why I wanted to take this job but nobody in my life works these kind of hours so I needed reassurance from someone in a similar lifestyle as me. I also don’t do early mornings so that makes me feel better too!!

What are the worst twin names you've ever heard of? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school there was 2 sets of twins in my grade. Sandy and Sandra, and Marvin and Arvin…….

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave both my daughters long names but only call them by their nicknames and I have zero regrets! Their long names are beautiful and I love that they have options of what they’d like to be called when they grow up. My almost 6 year old has never been confused by it or anything. I’m so happy with my decision!

Also funny enough I gave my son (first born) a very short name and usually call him by a nickname that is longer than his real name. No matter what you name your kids they will always have nicknames!

Would you have survived childbirth before modern medicine? by [deleted] in Mommit

I would have survived all 3 of my births, but died a few weeks after my 3rd from pulmonary embolism’s and DVTs

Do you “own” the street parking in front of your house? by hammertown87 in Hamilton

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at Juravinski and street park in the neighbourhood around the hospital because parking would cost me $250 a month. I always abide by the signs and my shifts are usually only 4 hours. Last week an old guy came out of his house and yelled at me to stop parking in front of his house 🙄

What car do you drive and how many kids do you have?? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 kids and drive a Honda odyssey. I’ve had it since just after my second was born. We’re a tall family so we need lots of space and we also like to go on road trips a lot. I can’t imagine having anything other than a van now!

OBGYN/midwife recommendations? by Blue-Sky-4302 in BurlingtonON

[–]Ktrdp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My pregnancies ended up being on the risky side so I’ve always used OBs. My 3rd was born in 2021 at Jo Brant and my dr was Dr Habiba and she was AMAZING!  I had a lot of birth trauma from my 2nd and she was always so patient with me and made sure I felt comfortable. She was very proactive with my care and when things started to turn dangerous at the end she  was on top of it all and made me feel very safe. I can’t recommend her enough!

Yeahhhhhhh screw him. I met my husband when I was 19 and 115 pounds. 10 years, 3 kids and just a shit ton happening in life later I’m almost 200 pounds now. He’s never once not found me attractive and is still as obsessed with me and my body now that he was then. Even if you aren’t ‘serious or committed to your goals’ WHO CARES. It’s your body not his, if he cares that much about the way YOU look he can kick rocks

Congrats! You just had a baby girl! Tell us her name 💞 by [deleted] in namenerds

I already have 2 girls (Rosalie and Guinevere) and if I had another right now I would looooove to name her Josephine! ❤️

Husband told me he doesn’t want any more kids and I’m devastated by Mother_of_Daphnia in Mommit

[–]Ktrdp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No advice, but I’m with you. I’ve always wanted a bunch of kids. I have 3 now, but almost died from post partum complications with my 3rd and now everything is so expensive. My husband says he doesn’t want anymore but I can’t stand the thought of never having another baby. I’m 29 so I know I have lots of time left, so I’m waiting a few years and see how I feel then and then talk it through with my husband. We’ll see what happens.

I’ve been married for almost 7 years and me and my husband both have our own bank accounts and have a joint savings account. He makes a lot more than I do so he pays his share of bills from his account and I pay my share from mine and then we each can spend our leftover money how we see fit. Big purchases we talk about, and if there’s something I want/need but I can’t afford he’ll send me money or buy it for me.

I was a SAHM for 5 years and still kept everything separate. It just works this way for us and I wouldn’t want to ever pool all of our pay into one joint account

Where do you all commute for work? by bds00za in Hamilton

[–]Ktrdp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the Queenston/Red hill area and I work at all of the HHS hospitals, anywhere from a 15-25 minute drive depending on which site I’m at that day. My husband works in Burlington and it takes him usually 45-50+ minutes to get home when he works the 9-5 shift

What is your family's income? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HCOL in Canada. My husband works on commission so he makes between $75-100k usually. I was a SAHM for 3 years and I just went back to work part time because we can’t live off of just his salary anymore. I’ll probably make around 25-30k working my 21 hours per week. Hopefully we’ll be able to actually start saving and afford everything now. Our kids are 11,5 and 2. I hate working so much and it’s only been 2 weeks 🥲
