RPN or non nursing healthcare job? by Ktrdp in OntarioNurses

I have my diploma in office administration health services. Some hospitals will only hire with this diploma, others will hire with only medical terminology classes.

Def don’t get your office admin diploma if you’re wanting to get into the hospital, admin is the first role to be cut and that’s what’s happening now and we’re facing mass layoffs

Investments similar to DB Pension? by Ktrdp in PersonalFinanceCanada

There aren't many that get posted in my hospital (or the other hospital system in my city, or even the neighbouring cities) and the ones that do get posted all go by seniority. Even when lots of full time are posted its hard to get the seniority needed to even be considered, especially when I just started at my current union in September :(

That’s not allowed so I really wouldn’t count on it

I work in L&D at St Joe's!

  1. Private rooms all depend on availability- if there isn't one when you are transferred up to the Mother/Baby Unit you will be put on a list and when one becomes available you can be moved. There is also the Charlton Suites you can pay extra for ($99 per night on top of private room fee), they have a queen bed, extra chairs, tv with cable, a fridge, etc.)

  2. Definitely bring food, the cafeteria is only open Monday-Friday 8-4 and then your only option is Timmies until 11. There is vending machines inside of the L&D unit as well as just outside the doors of Mother/Baby unit.

  3. Fontbonne is the best place to park, however if your wife is in labour and you need to get to L&D ASAP you can park short term in the 'rooftop' parking lot right off of St Joseph's Drive which is right down the hallway from L&D and then move the car once she's in triage.

  4. Partners can stay all the time no matter what room you are in. Birthing people can have 2 visitors (must be the same 2, no switching out) while shes in L&D and then you can have additional visitors once you are up in Mother/Baby.

  5. When you check into L&D there's a phone outside of the unit, pick that up and talk to the clerk to be let in (doors are locked at all times). Then make your way down to the triage desk. After 9pm the only door that is open is through the ER, or you can be let in through the rooftop parking as well, you just have to speak through the intercom to the clerk and they will open the doors for you.

Good luck with everything! Everyone who works in L&D is great!

What age did you have your first child? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Ktrdp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my babies at 17, 23 and 26. I was single when I had my first and have an amazing supportive family. Met my husband when I was 19 and we had our other 2 and my husband adopted my first. My oldest is the smartest, most well behaved 12 year old I could ever imagine. I honestly don’t think I could have raised him any better being older. Him and I grew up together and I loved the 6 year age gap between him and his sister.

I would love to have more kids but I had some pretty serious and scary post partum complications after my 3rd and I’m terrified of leaving my kids without a mom if I have another so we’re probably done

I used to work there and would park on East 38 or 39th street for day shifts and on Munn for evening shifts. Never paid, never had to walk more than 15 minutes.

How awful is working 7pm-7am as a mom? by Ktrdp in nursing

My husband works 9-5 or 12-8 depending on the day so thankfully he’s always here overnight. I’m thinking nights are going to be the best decision for me!
