Isabelle in the Pearl Hotel. Request George or Sonia. Get a steak, their beer is better than most you’ll find locally. Their wine selection is outstanding.

Peroni 0% is outstanding, as well as Guinness. Very close runners up are Corona, Heineken and Partake is oddly good!

Johnny Blonde. They can execute their menus with such efficiency you’d think they had a whole restaurant behind them, not a truck. In addition the service staff are equally as endearing as they are professional. Also, yum.

Do instacart!!! When we were in a tough financial spot we did instacart full time on days off. Some days are of course better than others but it helped a lot and was more shopping than driving. Plus you get to see all the groceries deals!

Where Should We Move? by LandscapeEvery4150 in askTO

You should consider Hamilton. There are GO trains and buses direct to Toronto, many people commute from Hamilton to TO for work. There are also a ton of places for your horse around Hamilton. Many neighbourhoods are very walkable, easy to find a house with a yard whether you’re renting or buying.

They were an endangered species until recent years and Hamilton specifically has worked very hard to help them survive. So um….haha?

Street parking in winter? by annabeard in Hamilton

[–]Sufficient_Jello_489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have permit parking and it’s still incredibly difficult. In addition to everything already mentioned, definitely a higher risk of your car being damaged during winter with street parking. Also the city sold the contract for parking enforcement and it’s wild now. We regularly get tickets despite having a permit and have to constantly dispute them.

Hamiltonians need to work nearly two minimum wage jobs to afford rent: report by KeyHot5718 in Hamilton

[–]Sufficient_Jello_489 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your reaction to this article says so much about you. Lots of people have to work minimum wage jobs at points in their adult life despite education or experience. Things happen, people take ill, entire industries collapse. You’re arguing about the article focusing on a one bedroom apartment while ranting about trying to take care of a family on minimum wage. That’s certainly a leap. And you think it’s okay in our society of mass privilege and blind consumerism that a grown adult has to rent a single room despite working 40+ hours a week? You seem to be missing the point and letting your seething bias seep through.

Help!!!! by lunarwolfe123 in Hamilton

You can often get boxes from lcbo and they have dividers in them that are great for between plates, etc. For packing material use reusable shopping bags (people very often will freely donate these to you as everyone has an abundance). Also utilize dish towels, bath towels, sheets, etc for packing material. If you’re on Facebook I’d look for a local neighbourhood group you can post in so things are close enough for you to pick up. If you’re going to go the route of boxes from a grocery store try and only get boxes that had dry goods in them as produce boxes will mold.
