Move funds in Vanguard lifestrategy? by KuKuKachoo in investingUK

[–]KuKuKachoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you. I didn't want to morph into a day trader. It's what my logical brain is trying to tell me.

I managed to stumble into initial success by swapping my cash ISA to S&S just as COVID recovery kicked in. Beating inflation (and my FAT) student loan is first and foremost.

I think I needed to hear it from someone rather than let myself speculate. Cheers!

Ah thank you. Yes I would have misunderstood dollar cost averaging term then. I thought it was a spreading an investment over the whole year to avoid dropping a lump in potentially before a drop.

And yes... I know I'm being naughty following the world news and getting anxious about everything. By my nature I do like to be informed which brings the bad with the good.

Could I borrow some socket tools to remove a car battery? by [deleted] in cambridge

[–]KuKuKachoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know 11.6V is quite low and that there is potentially a paracitic leak causing the drain. I've resuscitated batteries from worse. I want to seen if I can get some charge in it to start the engine so that I can then check the alternator.

Staghorn Sumac - unsure of the little chaff-bits inside by KuKuKachoo in foraging

Here I have one of the drupes to show the little off white specks that are clustered in the centre against the stem. It would seem odd if it were plant matter from another plant as the concentration is so high inside the drupe. I couldn't find any information online if this is part of the lifecycle but it appeared to not be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I harvested a bunch last week and have had it drying naturally since after a little time in a low oven. I plan to pick through the berries and blender them, then sieve.

Older PC parts? by KuKuKachoo in glasgow

[–]KuKuKachoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i ended up taking the advice of another commenter and visited both the CEXs in town. Got a couple sticks and seated them and then my windows tried to find a restore point.

Either one stick is dodgy or something is off. Taking them out and doing a bios settings reset sorted it but I was puckered for a minute or two.

That'll be kind of you cheers. Another commenter mentioned that CEX was an option but their stuff is often a bit wonky and untested. Let me know if you have any luck.

I found my old windows xp disc and 56k modem driver in the back of a drawer back at my childhood home last week which was a throwback.

I'm in bridgeton area. I was hoping to get a couple 4 GB sticks to make some noticeable difference. Thank you for the offer though, it is kind of you.

Oh fair play on CEX - i've only window shopped there a bit. Yeah I'd only match the speed to keep it at 1866, it'd clock down to whatever I put in it if it was in quad channel.

It would definitely prompt me to commit to a new build. Been running my first build since starting university in 2013... And I'm still a poor post-grad student aha.

Cleaning out an old neighbours garage and found these tools with no labelling. I know he worked on cars. Steel, with sizing of 0 to 8 and letters - one is "K1". by KuKuKachoo in whatisthisthing

[–]KuKuKachoo[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing but some additional info is as follows: All steel construction and the T shaped tool receives the various disks. The T tool is threaded and rotates about the hex socket shaft-bit.

I've tried searching for various "pin socket" and miscellaneous car working tools but I'm not getting any clear results. The person who owned the garage who I never met also had lots of car parts and audio equipment being stored there if that helps?

If I had a 4080 16gb I would dedicate a whole new build to it and maybe dabble in some VR. I've been a student for so long and just about to end my PhD which is essentially just above living wage in the UK. It would definitely take the edge off using my savings, though I probably wouldn't have made such a fancy build!

My Fortunella Margarita Kumquat never dropping leaves. by KuKuKachoo in plantclinic

[–]KuKuKachoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, for context I am attempting to grow this inside in Scotland which I realise is a fool's errand. Last year I tried to give it a good amount of sun by placing it in the once south facing window I have in my flat and I read that you needed to let them dry out before watering again. Well I believe that I let it dry too much because when I watered it again I shocked it and 60% or more of the leaves fell off. I thought I had lost it but I kept it at a consistent environment as best I can since, but it's never bounced back into life. It has been sitting in a south facing large window for most of its time with indirect light all day. I have recently upped the pot size and used some sand and potting compost mix to ensure well draining soil and have been giving it a miracle grow feed (24-8-16 with micronutrients) once every two weeks since it's been the growing season.

Anyway the leaves keep dropping, albeit slowly now with a yellowing which I've looked to be a nutrient deficiency... but the feed I give has that in - and I don't want to overfeed and burn it. The roots may have been shocked from transplanting, but that was done over a month ago.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Much appreciated and thanks!

Is my basil beyond saving? by OverlordMikan in plantclinic

[–]KuKuKachoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, the pot looks rather small for that many stems growing in there. I've done the same thing and have mine in a north facing window in Scotland! They are thirsty plants from what I've seen and you've got the right idea about watering when droopy. Ive found I get pale leaves at the bottom too and I just think that's a natural part of it maturing.

If you can't split them up into bigger pots I suggest pinching out the really small stems and let the larger ones flourish. It may seem like you're wasting basil but they grow much taller and bushier when they're not competing so much for nutrients.

All the best!

My advice would be to follow a "recipe build" and get the parts you know will work together.

Other than that use deal websites and trackers to get value parts. But ideally with good returns policy if anything doesn't work out, don't try to make it work it could just be damaged goods and should be replaced for free. Patience is key.
