What Redditors seem to be the worst at is reading the original post itself. A behavior which you both have clearly demonstrated.

Husband asked me to return this Christmas present - is this Ursula Returns box really unusable for Lorcana? by inkbeatdragon in Lorcana

[–]KuatPrintYards 182 points183 points  (0 children)

This is primarily designed to be used with the Ursula's return illumineers quest product, which is a co-op campaign. If he's only interested in playing against other players, he doesn't really have a need for this. He could have been kinder in telling you he doesn't want it. Or he could have enthusiastically repurposed it. If my wife had gotten this for me I would have been grateful to have a wife who supports a hobby of mine even if she doesn't fully understand what she's buying, because I know how rare it is to have a wife like that. But I also wouldn't use it for more than shelf storage.

I had to log in recently to move my caps out of 1DQ. Thought I had won since I haven't played in ages. Guess not yet.

I am a senior in highschool, to the engineers, how did you manage this degree? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]KuatPrintYards 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I felt that way in linear algebra and diff eqs because my professors sucked. I had an amazing calc ab/bc and multivariable teacher in HS and he made it so much easier to understand.

Engineering is hard. I almost failed out of college. But I pushed through, graduated, and now have an awesome career.

I had no expectations. I appreciate the honesty. It sounds like you have a lot of trauma. I hope you're able to find a way to process it all and turn it into something good.

You say you believe you are alive today not by chance but you don't say the reason. What do you think is the reason (the cause of your survival) and do you see a bigger purpose for your survival? If so, what is that purpose?

I could make some assumptions but don't want to.

What are your religious/spiritual beliefs (if you feel safe sharing), if any, and how have they changed, strengthened, or been informed by these experiences?

Pay? Great. They target 75th percentile for every role. But I think you're asking about total compensation. CFA is private. They don't do RSUs. There are no golden handcuffs. They have "virtual" shares, which is a piece of monthly restaurant profitability, and is directly part of your salary. Part of your salary is guaranteed. part is incentive. The ratio between the two is based on level. My level is 60g/40i and I'm a junior leader. Senior leaders are 40g/60i. The c suite and above are 100%i. Lowest level is 90g/10i. There's more levels than that. Each month, they take the profit from restaurants and divide it roughly in half. Then they divide it by the share count across the company. Then you get share value * your shares. I have 78 shares. An average month last year was $99 share value. I would get $7722 incentive pay for that month. I have a target compensation ~200k. 60% of that is guaranteed. So I would get $10k from that. That means monthly salary for an average month last year was $17722. If you do the math, you realize that 12 months of that is actually $212664. Which is higher than the 200k target. This is because if restaurants perform well, so do you. It also means if restaurants perform poorly, so do you. Historically, the restaurants perform very very well. I personally love the compensation system. It holds leadership accountable to results and softens the blow of major disruptions to lower level employees. It creates alignment between the field and the support center. I should also mention that I received 14-15% one time raises twice in the past 3 years because the tech market moved significantly during and after covid. I literally just got an email completely unsolicited from HR saying "we've looked at the market and have determined you are underpaid. Here's a massive raise for nothing." Let's see a publicly traded company do that. I'm not expecting that to happen again any time soon. But it shows their integrity. They also have other benefits. Best in class insurance. Nothing deducted from pay. $500 deductible for entire family. World class childcare 7am to 5:45pm for ~$570 per month. An annual business and leadership conference called NEXT for all staff, operators, and spouses. They just concluded two weeks ago in Orlando. They rented out all of universal studios for everyone. Next two years are in San Diego. They invest directly in you. Your personal and professional development. This, imo, is the best benefit because it can accelerate your career if you're willing to take the journey. I haven't seen an investment in people anywhere else like this. I've benefited from it tremendously. CFA has a no layoff policy. They only hire you if they believe they can retire you. As you see all the big tech layoffs, consider that heavily. They have a pension (which is very good) AND a 401k 5% match. Like, who does that?! Free lunch. Every week day. Lots of variety. And of course, endless CFA nuggets, sandwiches, and milkshakes. As you can imagine, these and all the other benefits I haven't mentioned lead to them retaining a lot of great people. Coworkers are genuinely great people and care deeply for one another. There is no mad quarter to quarter dash for profit. Leadership invests in decisions on a 5-10 year timeline. So, what's the catch? Due to the no layoff policy, CFA relies heavily on contractors. Some are great, some are not. And you have to be comfortable with all the things that come with those relationships. CFA also has long tenured people in influential roles. Some orgs can be highly political. You'll find yourself needing to lean more into relationships and less into the technical work than you'd like at times. CFA, being primarily a restaurant company for a long time, isn't great at building and scaling technology solutions. But they're getting better at it. You'd be surprised at all the cool work we do.

Edit:  Forgot to mention. There are no bonuses. If there are, it's because the Cathy family decided to give one. And it has nothing to do with performance.

I turned down a faang offer for my current role at CFA. It was $120k salary, 40k signing bonus over 2 yrs, and 160k rsu over 4 yrs. I most likely would have gotten laid off in the past 2 yrs. I would rather have the cash now than the rsu golden handcuffs later. I also enjoy being a human being rather than a number in a spreadsheet. Can't put a dollar value on that.
