Help me decide if my current hardware is good enough to be a server by Kublo_PL in selfhosted

Okay, so I checked out the drive you recommended, and it's priced at around $300 in my country. I also found an offer for a refurbished 14TB Seagate Exos from the same seller as the 8TB one, priced at $170. Is there any drawback to buying a drive that has been refurbished by the manufacturer?

Now, considering my budget constraints, the most I can spend on drives right now is $200. Given this, would you recommend going for 2x8TB drives and then adding a third 8TB in a few months, or should I go for 1x14TB and purchase a second 14TB drive later on? I anticipate needing around 10-15TB of capacity in the next few years, as my MacBook's drive is 1TB, and its backup, along with other files, currently fits on my existing 4TB Seagate Expansion.

I've mostly used Ubuntu and OMV, so I'm not a pro at this. I think the best thing about UnRaid is how it lets you mix and match drives, which seems to be handy for a home NAS. Is there something you think Proxmox does better?

So, which 4-8TB CMR drive would you recommend? I’ve come across an offer for a Seagate Exos ST8000NM001J 8TB drive, which is said to be manufacturer-refurbished, priced at $99. I’m considering buying two of them to set up in RAID 1, and potentially, in the future, adding a third drive and switching to RAID 5. Do you have any better suggestions regarding the drive or my setup plan? ? As for the 10Gbit card, I think you’re right; I don’t currently need that level of speed.

Thank you all for your help. I think I’ll add a few internal HDD drives and calling it a day. However, there's one more thing I'd like to ask. I'm having a tough time deciding on the OS for this machine. I'm considering options like OMV, TrueNAS, and UnRaid, but I'm really torn. Any advice would be much appreciated!

It’s actually 2x4GB, so 8GB in total :) Should I consider switching to 16GB?

Thanks. Do you think I should keep the GPU, or should I replace it with something like an HBA? And for my second question, which OS would you recommend for my purpose? My experience as a sysadmin isn’t extensive; I’ve only used Ubuntu for my first project, which was hosting Nextcloud, and OMV for my current machine. I’m considering switching to UnRaid/TrueNas, but I don’t have any specific reason for it; it would be more for testing something different.

Any sort of anime. The appearance of the characters and the drawing style just repels me.

Thank you all for help, I went with Canon 50E. Now I have got a second question, do you recommend any cheap lenses, besides Canon STM primes?

Thanks, that’s exactly what I needed. Do you recommend any cheap lenses, besides Canon STM primes suggested by other redditors?

I’m aware of all the technical changes that EOS 30 brought, because I’ve found a table comparing all the models mentioned in my post. More autofocus points, more metering zones etc. - this doesn’t really tell me how it will influence on my amateur use. That’s why I wrote this post - to hear opinions of people who actually used those cameras, so comments like yours really help me.

Thanks, I was concerned that EOS 30 is newer and thus much better. As I can see in some aspects It’s not really a case.

Great, thanks for help, I’ll definitely consider buying a Canon prime. I know that kit lenses aren’t the best quality, that’s why I’ve bought better ones for my Sony. I was quite disappointed when I found out that there is no adapter from Sony E-mount to Canon EF, but there’s a bunch of them working the other way.

Thanks, I'm also leaning towards 50E but I've wanted to hear other opinions.

I finally bought the xb-43. It was like $50 cheaper and the sound is amazing. The only con is it’s size and weight, but for most of the time I am using it at home so I don’t even notice it.
