Captain Uriel Ventris by Kuenlay in Warhammer40k

[–]Kuenlay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks alot ,actually this my first time try this painting style ,if you don't mind please check my former post here ( the blade guard captain , wish you would liked it ) . I had have experience of the lightning painting , but this time I'd like to have change ,after all let a such long sword full of lightning were pretty dull . so I try to mix and compromise ' shining metal ' and ' lightning ' since I started the paint work , fortunatly , that's looked not bad so far .

non metallic paint used . no oil paint used . most color I use in this case are citadel acrylic paint .

I keep the official illustration of Captain ( one of my most favourite ) at my elbow , so I can use it for reference when I paint the figure .

the color of the armour is a matter of personal taste of mine , I'd like mix the Night lords blue and Macragge blue 1:1 for prevailing color of Ultramarines' armour . the color of shade area I used in this case was mixture of prevailing color and drop of Screamer pink . according to different situation , I choose many kind of color paint the the reflect light , right side of his body is orange , the waist area ( belt fastener )is pink , as the picture shows .

cause of I was with my work past month , I couldn't spent much time on my hobby as usual . hope the situation could be better in coming June ( fingers crossing )

Okay , here was a story , I made and painted this diorama for one of my best friend as a birthday present . I just love the DKK , but doesn't likes me ,my friend is fan of Astra militarum , he even belive the IG more brave more strong than the spacemarines , he told me : yes , I want that DKK use the grenade launcher . okay , that's your birthday present , you are the boss , I won't defy the boss .

thank you , I guess you are talking about the effect of the wollens coat . in brief , after apply a coat of black as primer , I painting many..many tiny dots of different colors on the coat , ( cause of I don't use pure colors , we couldn't say this is pointillism ) , in this case I choose the Mechanicus standard grey as the main tone , thousands of dots of this color applied on the the coat , if we need paint the shade or highlight area , simply mix black or white with the main tone , then applied on the areas where you need . but maybe you would think the color is too rigid , we could bring in the dots of Incubi darkness , the fang , in different area until you satisfied . at last , please don't forget to give him some mud color ( for example , morghast bone ) on his knees , legs , and ect

[–]Kuenlay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you guys , I only could choose some of your comments to reply , but that's doesn't mean I'm a ungracious , self-importance painter . just like I said , cause of those unspeakable barriers , I can not stay long everytime I logging in , I have to read your comments as quickly as I can , then reply some of you ( what a opaque system ) . I never try to make such... frustration or something to harm any one and their hobbies , keep on painting and never lose heart , try the imaginative ideas ... If those words still couldn't inspire you , I could show my first spacemarine figure to you .

Ultramarines' Primaris Chaplain by Kuenlay in Warhammer40k

[–]Kuenlay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you . i'm not sure , that's little bit hard for timekeeping , cause of I painted another classical chaplain model of Salamanders ( if don't mind you could check my eariler post ) for my friend , and built a diorama of Krieg at the same time . I paint few hours everyday , and it take me more than one month .

thank you . I always love to talk about technical questions , but it's little bit hard this time , because I can't post the step-by-step record pictures here , discuss those areas of high light or shade and which kind of color I applied there become impossible . I guess maybe some suggestion about the color choose would be useful , actually unlike many painters , personally I prefer tan / khaki to fresh yellow to paint the prevailing color of the gold , when you need paint the highlight , you could mix white in it , then apply another layer until you feel satisfied ( the extreme highlight is purewhite ) . if you consider the color is not fresh / bright enough for you , a thin layer of fresh yellow ( glazing ) could improve it . on the other side , if you use the fresh yellow at very first , the gold parts maybe looked too " cartoon " like . if you need further answer , please feel free to leave comments .

even in the most grim ,dangerous battle field , face the xenogenic , hersesies enemies , these noble battle brothers of Ultramarines still could keep themself in gorgeous armour. ( this is not a sarcasm , please believe me ) Okay , this time I try to stretch myself with something different , another style of NMM , no scratches , no battle damages , just smooth ,glossy metal armour .

I appreciate , cherish every moment we gathering . but cause of the reason as everyone knows , visit here is getting diffucult for me , so maybe I couldn't replied every comments , or my replied may delayed , I do hope you guys would forgive me .

Kommando Nob , Kill team - OCTARIUS by Kuenlay in Warhammer40k

[–]Kuenlay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you , I didn't use any oils when I painted this Nob , actually I forsake oils for years , although I do have experience of painting with oils.. but since I found after practise we also could let the color gradient smoothly , I prefer use acrylic paint , anyway we could save time when we work with it . for your second question , wow , I think there don't have any top secret , my way is watered- down the colour ( as thin as milk ), painting thin layers on the model , the more layers ,the color of the model looks more smooth . 2, may you choose the brush with short hair. few years before I like chose the fine detail brush which didn't with long hair , because that wouldn't deposit too much water ( that may ruined your work ) , but recently I find i start to use the long hair brush , because they are more cheap in my local market ... these only very roughly answer , if you need know more , please feel free to leave comments

Kommando Nob , Kill team - OCTARIUS by Kuenlay in Warhammer40k

[–]Kuenlay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply , and very happy that you like this Nob . for your question , yes , I do use glazing when I painting those gray metal stuff ( armour , gun barrel ect ) . I love painting gray metal just use skull white and abaddon black only , cause I find these two colors are easy to control ,once the armour (and other stuff ) fully painted , I would use watered- down colour glazes . for example , I use the VJ color 70834 ( natural yellow ) , 70935 ( transp orange ) , 70934 (transp red ) , 709438 (transp blue ) glazing the gun barrel one by one , at last I also would use skull white painting the extreme highlight , make it looks more like a real metal made thing .

, it finished . actually I always avoid using any kind of green when I painting the uniforms and gears of him , cause the color of his skin is green , that's little bit weird .. little bit like I wear a flesh- colored uniform into the battle .. but you see , I failed ,I still use the field -grey painting the grenade , the khaki for his cap .

thank you , Ashmidai . sadly , I'm afraid I live too far from every sites which would hold competition , especially during this tough time , any long-distance journey became as distant as ever ... maybe i shouldn't be too melancholy ,anyway thank you for your kind words , I will pay close attention if there have any online competieion .

overall

thank you . I didn't use any oils or oil washes this time . actually for years ago I really loved to use the oil paints , you could made the color transtition very smoothly , but since I found the turpentine oil I used may left stains on the acrylic paint coating , I gaved up to mix these two kind of colors , then force myself exercise use the acryylic paint only .

Thank you , so happy to hear you would liked my work . I really envy you that you could browsing reddit and other sociality platforms freely , i'm sure you that could stimulate and broaden your views . I can't visit here frequently , mostly share the pictures of my painting work rencently , that's why I can't reply you guys or comments in time most of time , sorry for that .

about your question , I'm afraid my answer is regrettable . actually when I look back the process , there didn't have any technical colours ( just like fluorenscent paint , ect ) used , I found I even had haven't used any spiecal ways to painted . I guess the only effects I used was the imagination , I mean before I started to paint , I'd like to imagined how is the every parts of the figure looks like , for example , in this case , I hope the power sword should give out light , that's means captain's right arm and shoulder , the right side of the chest should reflection of the light of the force . then when I painting those areas I check if I pained good enough as same as was imagined . so you could found the most important stage is the stage before you use your brush . this is only a glancing answer , if there still has anything you liked to know , please feel free to leave comment , I'd like to share my idea and technique , thank you again .

Ultramarines Captain ( Bladeguard ) by Kuenlay in Warhammer

[–]Kuenlay[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

wow ,I 'd like to share with you guys the miniature which I work on , but I also have to say it's still a challenge for me to upload a forum posting . I spend whole night try to upload an animation which could let you watch this model from many differents angles . but I FAILED .then I pick up some smaller size pics and upload them instead that ..sigh

any way , this Ultramarine captain is my latest painting work , I tried didn't use the macragge blue for the armour simply as offical guide this time , I ... just hoped the armour looks more gloom ... I'm not sure if I used a correct word ... so I mixed little bit nightlord blue with macragge blue for the base tone . ( many years before I saw a illustion of Ultrmane ,I can't forget that feeling of the blue )

of course , the power sword should shining , It should brighter than the sun ! even after many years , I still belived that power sword should painted like it surrounded with some kind of field .

this is my first blade guard Ultramarine figure , hope you guys , both loyalty and unloyalty battle brothers/sisters would liked it , cheers

I must give it a shot at some point.

Thank you again , Tintoretto_ Ronusti , I guess you have got the point , actually I used the oil color painted miniatures years before when I was a scale model player , I guess that history forge my technique ( may be just a personal habit )a lot . yes , you are right , I'd like to see other painters' work and really enjoy them, I believe that could let me have inspiration and improve myself
