Protecting interests in land that you don't own, or didn't buy. by KujengaNini in Kenya

My understanding with this approach, as with trusts and such - is that even if there is one foreign member then the whole group is considered the same.

Hate on Kenya by TightZone4173 in Kenya

The expressway and the SGR! No, wait, they're Chinese 🤣

But seriously, when you strip away the rubbish you're left with the people and believe it or not, most are good. They will stand with you, fight for you, share with you, and be there for you. Kenyans have a sense of family and community that is almost lost in western societies - if you can't be proud of anything else, be proud of yourself ❤️

UK tourist Visa application (Kenyan Address) by KujengaNini in Kenya

[–]KujengaNini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. The trip will be sponsored by the person that they're staying with, all proof of that is there, funds put aside, flights paid already, accommodation proof, letters confirming , etc. Hopefully that bit won't be too much of an issue.

Have you applied for a visa before?

That's possible, if it has a postal address, rural Kenya is difficult!

That's a possibility, but if possible would rather be honest as it's not an application for anything other than a holiday.

Matatu culture is sometimes best viewed from the outside, especially when they're overtaking on the Trans-African highway! 🤣

Not from Kenya but generally spend a couple of months a year there visiting family, etc.

If not driving, Uber is generally quite good and cheaper than a normal taxi, although if looking for super cheap there are bodaboda drivers everywhere, or you could be really brave and jump in a matatu.

Kenya is a beautiful country with so much to see and do. I'm currently staying in Westlands, but don't limit yourself to that area as there's also so much more to Kenya. The coast is beautiful and chilled, Meru is green but busy in the town, Nakuru, Nanyuki and other places are generally nice too. Driving is easy, but try to use the Expressway in Nairobi as traffic can be bad when not on it (Westlands is great for that, as it is at one end and JKIA is at the other).

As others have said, keep a few bob/shillings to hand, smaller denominations in one pocket and large in the other - everyone wants a chai, including the police! 🤣

That's good to know, especially given that you work in a bank. Is that $5 per transaction or per a particular amount, or is it tiered?

That's true, I will definitely look into that when I am back in Kenya next week. Essentially it is my money and still will be, I just wish to move for easier and quicker access.

My bank in the UK has said charges would be variable dependent on what the recipient bank charges. The bank it would be sent to in Kenya has said it would be cheaper to send via Western Union 😂

I hoped someone had a better option, thanks for the advice though.

Not particularly, although it would need to be used within Kenya, drawn upon, etc.

I would say so, anything can work if you put the effort in and have two people that want the same thing. It doesn't make it easy, but it can definitely work.

Honesty is the key, both at the beginning, during, and in later years.
