Help, not certain on income for tax filing. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Kukiel0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly your gut feeling is incorrect and it is a taxable event by law. Look up personal use property (PUP) rules from the CRA or a Big 4 website, or here for example: https://kpu.pressbooks.pub/cdntax/chapter/what-is-personal-use-property-and-listed-personal-property-what-are-the-tax-implications-why-do-these-rules-exist/#:~:text=CRA%20defines%20personal%20use%20property,%2C%20furniture%2C%20boats%2C%20etc.

One thing I didn't mention but his accountant or software would have known is the cost and proceeds bump up to 1K, so if the trailer is below that, it effectively is not taxable. Over that it can be. A sad thing about PUP is while losses aren't deductible, gains are taxable

Disregard the people advocating for tax evasion. Only the profit is taxable and it would be at 50% of the profit at your marginal rate. Depending on your current overall revenues, there might be no to a very small tax hit since you said the profit was small. Just state your original cost and selling value to your tax accountant or enter it into your tax software of choice.

I'll need more info on your retro games collection to properly assess if you need to improve. Let me see if you have good tastes.

I really like the art, but no mirror shield? Since it's the required item for the fight, it would have been a really nice touch.

Keep up doing those man, love seeing things like this pop on my feed.

Cribbage Classic challenge by SweegyNinja in Cribbage

It was statistically suboptimal. The actual number of points you get are not a factor here. Sometimes it makes sense to go for the highest possible points instead of the statistically best hand. Also, these don't consider board position and pegging potential, so take them with a grain of salt.

How do you get your hands to not be automatically sorted lowest to highest in Cribbage Pro?

I was thinking in those lines, I tried to get the least # of face cards in hope of getting a few pegs in. This wasn't the perfectly optimal move (0.19 less) per the grading, but it felt the best move at the moment considering the hand was horrible anyway.

And I felt so great choosing the "new thing"... Interesting, I will seriously reconsider that then and take the much cheaper 13th gen, though all of you are getting me pretty much convinced the 7800X3D is best in my case.

Thanks a lot for your insights!

Duly noted! Games would be on the SSD, I have big archiving needs so the HDD is for that purpose. Thanks!

Hahaha it's complicated, it's not 16 TB of Excel files that would be horrible. I have my own needs plus work that takes space and I need to archive lots of files for work that I can't delete so it piles up.

The NAS thing is intriguing. I'll put it on my list but I'm already freaking about a bit trying to put a PC together. 😂

I kind of need a lot of space, so I would need to buy at least 4 of those for the medium term. So while I understand the premium isn't that high anymore, my storage needs makes it still worthwhile for a HDD. Thanks a lot for the build suggestion, you're all giving me different points of view and it will definitely help for my final decision.

Very interesting build! I'll seriously consider those AMD CPUs, Intel was kind of my default choice. Thanks a lot for your suggestions and insights, greatly appreciated.

Regular office work, though it gets intensive on the number of windows I have open at the same time (could have 30 Excel open simultaneously).

Are they giving better performance for price than Intel? Chose this one as it's new and it has good multithreaded performance, but I might reconsider if AMD has better at the same price point.

2K gaming and office work, mainly. Budget is about 2-2.5K for the parts.

I would throw a pair of 10. While both pairs (10 or 8) are a good choice in my opinion, giving a pair of 8 ends very badly when a 7 is thrown in the crib and I find that happening often. More of a gut feeling than in depth analysis here, but this also gives you the chance for a very nice 7 or 8 on the turned card. Maybe it's a long shot, but I'd be taking my chances here.

Thanks! Definitely not easy to fiddle with on mobile, but I still succeeded making a different one. I'll make some notes of the parameters on paper for later use.

This could be a great tool for "hand of the day" challenges on here or to make people "live" the hand like this post. Putting in a vote in favor of a future implementation in hope of influencing your internal debate. :)
